Havelock

Skip Picton, Come Here Instead

Havelock is where I'd head if you want the Marlborough Sounds experience without the ferry crowds and big boat traffic. The sounds from here are just as good to look at, but quieter. Way less commercial. The pick is the Pelorus Sound Mail Run Cruise which winds out through the inner sounds delivering mail and supplies to remote properties. It's one of those trips that feels genuinely different from the usual tourist circuit. The RANKERS promo code gets you a discount on the cruise, which is a nice bonus on top of an already good day out.

Good Base, Good Vibes

If you're stopping overnight, the holiday park here is a solid option. There's also kayaking available if you want to get out on the water under your own steam and poke around the coves at your own pace. Havelock sits on the main road between Picton and Nelson, so it fits naturally into the route rather than being a detour. Stop, cruise, sleep, move on. That works.
