White Water Country
Murchison is really the rafting spot in this part of the world. The Buller and Mangles rivers come together here and the white water is genuinely good. If you're up for it, rafting on the Buller is the main event, and the RANKERS promo code takes a bit off the price which is a nice bonus. It's the kind of activity that'll be the highlight of a few days' driving.
In Between Places
Murchison sits on the drive between Nelson and the West Coast, and for most people that's exactly what it is. A stopover. But it's a genuinely pleasant one. The town is small and unhurried, the surrounding hills are big, and if you've been grinding through the more touristy parts of the Nelson region, the pace here feels like a relief. There's a holiday park right on the river that's a solid base, or the Kiwi Park in town if you want something a bit more central. Nothing flash, but that's kind of the point.
