Get On the Early Sailing

The big tip here is to stay in Manapouri the night before and get on the early morning sailing. It's cheaper than the later one, and the bus tours out of Queenstown haven't arrived yet, so it's noticeably quieter. You take a boat across Lake Manapouri, then a bus over Wilmot Pass, and suddenly you're somewhere that feels like the rest of the world doesn't exist. Set aside a full day for it. It earns it.
