One of the best places we have been at for a long time.
The high score due to the nice views, clean toilet and outdoor shower. Thanks to the local Council for supporting this excellent Freedom camper site.

Nice spot, but very full and loud!
Standing centimeters next to each others camper and loud motorcycles around that area..
Toilets are okay, but have seen better ones on my journey through NZ.
Views are stunning, though!

Lots of spots, but very packed.
Don't get here too late. Very windy, it's completely exposed. Nice beach for surfing, very clean (flushing) toilets, outdoor shower, bins.

Stunning place!
Flushed toilets (cleaned 3 times a day!), 2 cold showers, 35 min walk to city center (woolworth, warehouse etc), beautiful sunset!
Little trailer till 1 pm with great coffee and snacks!
Respect the place!
Don’t park like an idiot and stop washing your dishes in the toilets/showers! That’s disgusting for everyone!

The Green Sticker Eule IS ONLY for Rental Cars, If you own a selfcontained Van with a blue Sticker you are still allowed to stay (there are no Rules for vehicles other than rented ones and I didn't have
any Trouble staying there).

Keep in mind that from December 7th 2024 you‘ll need a green self contained sticker or you’ll be fined 400 dollars.
Otherwise it’s a pretty good stop for a night

2 very clean toilets that are cleaned 2x a day + an outside shower.
Lots of space, many cars can stay here. The location is right by the beach. It was rainy and quite stormy when we were there, we woke up a few times because of the wind howling.

A good spot for a stop over.
Plenty of space for campervans, make sure to park in designated overnight spots. Incredibly clean toilets available for use.

Very clean and well serviced toilets, I couldn’t believe the quality for the price of nothing!
Views across to the mountains are beautiful.
I imagine this place would fill up quickly in summer; even on a cold, rainy Monday night in September there were several vans around.
Note that the section of the carpark along the waterfront is not available for camping (signs are pretty clear). Some locals were telling me that those in charge will not hesitate to boot you out if you camp in the wrong place.

This was a great place to stop!
The Wetland development was a lovely place to stroll along and watch the birdlife and, whilst brisk, the walk along the beach promenade was also worthwhile. Close enough to the township and some good spots to take in the sea views.

Room for plenty of motor homes.
Awesome this type of facilities are available to travelers. Bit exposed to westerly winds off the water but it was windy for our stay and did not bother us. Was probably about 11 motor homes here last night.

Amazing free camping area right on the beach.
Large field for kids to play in and good flush toilet block. Great sunset views and sound of the ocean all night. Kids spent hours hunting for crystals/rocks on the beach. Self contained only and is a lined carpark.

Right on the beach front, signal for your phone, clean and good size toilets, a good amount of parking space and even an outdoor shower if you’re feeling brave!
View is worth it, even on a cloudy, rainy and windy day the sea views are wonderful

Very close to the sea, so a bit windy.
Clean flush toilets, unfortunately, some people are too stupid to use them so they clogged up during the night -.-
Cold outdoor shower
Self contained only, somebody comes around to check
Locals don't adhere to the rules of the area, so you might get some that drive their vehicles on the beach. Otherwise it's really lovely! 40 minute walk to Greymouth centre

Beautiful wee spot next to the beach, the toilet doors need a little attention as the locks are a bit funny 1 of them someone has written a note on toilet paper to not lock the door as it locks you in
and the other toilet doesn't lock properly.
The weather was pretty crappy while we were here and it's very exposed for wind and felt like our camper was going to tip over.
All in all it's a great wee spot and with good weather it would be amazing

One of the two freedom camps in the harbour which are pretty the same (second one is missing in Rankers).
Nice toilets cleaned twice a day and two cold showers on each site. Quite windy. And a beautiful spot to watch the sunset!

Incredible view - easy beach walk.
Toilets had hot water at the sink and very clean. Surf shower as well. Does get a bit windy as very exposed.

The site is spacious - public toilets are clean, and reasonable size (2 toilets).
You are right at the beach, so staying during Autumn/Winter will mean storms and high winds. Expect your vehicle to rock slightly through the night and you might want earplugs for the drumming rain

Une sorte de bout du monde sur le front de mer.
Perpendiculairement des places réservées à ceux qui veulent y passer la nuit.
Toilettes et lavabo propres, éclairés à l’ouverture de la porte. Douche dehors.
Une table de pique nique.
Bercés par les vagues et le vent.

Brilliant place to camp.
Good clean 2x loos and beach shower. Right by the beach and Wednesday nights surf club was on (run from the building up the shipwreck breakwater). Boards can be hired in the surf shop in town.
Busy with everyone parked up in the designated spaces, got a space fine at 1830. About 2000hrs self-containment check was conducted and the official moved people from day use bays.
Shame about the rain and wind but can’t be helped!
