This review is for one night midwinter just stayed from dusk to pre-drawn.
Appreciated the dumpstation and the two well lit toilets (although on the night we stayed they were in rough shape ;) Even in midwinter there were two other campers staying so it felt overall safe although early morning someone did drive by and shout something at us (this was the only time this happened in our week freedom camping). Lots of camper spots here. We could hear that the beach was really close although could not see it as it was very rainy and dark the night we stayed and we left right before dawn.

Gorgeous spot, just a short walk to the beach.
There were plenty of spots when we got there ~20:00. Toilets are nice and clean and there is a potable water station.

Nice spot, be aware where you’re parking.
Campervans can only park in the middle for overnight camping. My neighbors got a fine of 200 NZD because they stood too much on the right. The signs with the warning are very poor.

Greta freedom camp spot.
Toilets, water and dump available. There is even a shore power lead if you needed electric! A short walk to a corner shop and chippy. Very quiet and a short walk over the dunes to a lovely Sandy beach.

Good carpark with plenty of room for long vehicles.
A dump site, clean toilets. Can't see the water from parking area but it's only 1 or min walk to the beach. As previous review mentions close to road but its pretty quiet at night.

Nice spot just off the road.
Large carpark area can fit quite a few camper vans however did full up by about 4pm. Nice clean toilet and close to beach. Small area on grass behind parking to sit down and relax. Close to the road however seemed to be quite peaceful at night.

Try the municipal site up by life guard station but was full so traveled along to this one which turned out to be a real bonus as great facilities, clean & comical toilets which played music plenty of
parking up to about 8 campers but it was nice & quiet as there was only 3 there on the night we stayed, but the site just a stroll up & down from it were to capacity which is bizarre as this is lovely site & 100 meters from the beach would definitely stay here again

There is a toilet, a grey water dump, a drinking water supply and though it is near the road it is quiet at night.
Sunset at the nearby beach is quite nice to watch.

Beautiful Campsite. Locals really friendly simon and Jackie took time to show us their long line fishing rig. All spaces full but when a car and caravan take up six bays its not surprising there is no dpace for others.

This was a great free spot!!
Maybe 7-8 spots (didn’t count) RIGHT on the waterfront. Toilets on site with tap water on the side of building.
Enjoyed a gorgeous sunrise in the morning.
Only reason it’s not a 10 is because of the location being in town despite being beautiful.

This is a clean, well defined, well kept and level car park which backs on to a grassed area and the the frontal dune.
The beach is a short walk down a path - private and quiet, and looks unspoiled. Shells galore! Looks like good fishing spot for whiting. Potable water here with threaded tap for hose, plus wash down threaded tap and effluent drain. Public toilet on site is modern and spotless. There is no privacy - the site faces a row of houses (150m?). We backed in and were not bothered.
