Campervans and motorhomes can free camp at Tanners Point Utility Rec Reserve for up to 3 nights, provided they have self-containment certification.

Located about 1km from SH2, Tanners Point overlooks the northern tip of Tauranga's Matakana Island. Access from Tanners Point Road.

There is a 3 night maximum stay in any 4 week consecutive period at this site. The 4 consecutive weeks begin from the first overnight stay.

First in first served! Usual free camping etiquette applies: leave no rubbish, respect other users of the area and the environment. Enjoy!

    Arrived at midday and we are the only ones here nice and quite and back doors open onto the grass and water amazing spot

    Beautiful place right on the water front.

    Only enough spaces for about 5 Van's, if there are no cars parked in the allocated spaces. Very busy car park during the day as it is also a boat ramp. People launching and retrieving boats all day and night.

    Nice quiet site which is also a boat ramp.

    One toilet block with toilet paper, relatively clean. Large park area with picnic benches which would be great on a sunny day. Room for a fair number of campers.

    Beautiful views, 10 meters from the water, good swimming, private bay, space for ~4 campers.

    We spent the night here by ourself, locals are friendly

    Nice parking place with Nice view on the water and a toilet.

    Sheltered in a bay so not so much wind. Locals come and go with boats. 4 spots for freedom camping.

    Great secluded and sheltered bay, well maintained facilities, walking trail to take you round the cove, picnic benches for dinners and breakfasts.

    Plenty of wildlife to observe.
