Information

Sailors Cutting Camping Ground

The Waitaki District Council looks after this campsite and for a small fee you can experience the goodness. Please register and pay on arrival - information is on the registration booths.

Sailors Cutting is just off the main road and is super popular with the long-term local crew. There are big mature trees to camp underneath and the whole site is very sheltered. There are seperate sections for overnight and full season campers.

There is boat ramp, a small harbour and a safe swimming area.

    Good enough for a night.

A bit buggy but bathroom was clean. No showers.

Next to the lake and main road.

Clean toilets. Was a peaceful spot and only occasionally heard traffic. No trouble from sand flies or mosquitos. There were many empty caravans parked and so didn't know where we were 'allowed' to put our tent. Water needs to be boiled before drinking and no showers/kitchen. At $10 per person we found it a bit expensive for what was provided.

    We arrived very late.

But that is not a problem. You can register yourself and put the money in an envelope. $10 per person. You have a toilet and a sink. No showers. But for a night its perfect :).
