Ok spot but remember to park between the two arrow fines … coupe of vans didn’t do his last night and got a $400 fine each .

Ranger visiting at all times even later at night and very early in the morning .

Beautiful spot at the beach, with multiple toilets and beach shower.

Officially you are allowed to camp from 5pm, but was already full at 4.30. Recommend to hire a kayak and head to donut island (Whenuakura) when the sea is not that rough. Kayak rental is at the same parking spot.

    This spot is awesome!

There are pubilc toilets and even a beach shower and benches. It is an amazing beach for long walks or a swim and offers a stunning sunrise in good weather. We absolutely loved the spot and can really only recommend it. Would arrive before 5 pm as it does get really busy and there is only a limited number of spaces where you’re allowed to park.

Brilliant spot with an especially nice playground just behind it.

Only holds four vans and is quite tight. But great location.

Very limited number of sites (four) - but otherwise great for an overnight stay.

Toilets close by, but you will be right next to your neighbours. Beautiful little beach though.

Great spot directly at the beach but very tight space for 4 campers - also noisy during the day/evening with people coming & going.

    Toilet & outside cold shower.

Lovely location, very quiet, set back from beach and protected from the wind by dunes.

Make sure you only stay in specially allocated spaces as council checks in the early hours and issues instant NZD 200.00 fines. Great beach for long walks.

In mid-November, 4 of around 10 pitches were occupied.

But there are still day visitors to the beach who park there until around 6 p.m.

You have a great view of the sea. There are public toilets right next to the pitch that are very clean and well-maintained. Great spot. Only 9 out of 10 points because it was so windy when we were there that the whole camper was shaking.

Spot was lovely and quite, maybe it was just our particular experience but, we are both born and bred Kiwis traveling our backyard.

We've been all over NZ together and arriving in Whanagamata we quite surreal. I've never ever felt like an alien or "in the wrong place", then we did when we got Whangamata. Being a small town, everyone know everyone and they know your not a local. From being stared at constantly while enjoying fish n chips on the beach, to chilling in our camper at this reserve and having an old man pacing back and forwards looking at us and shaking his head was a little unnerving. Felt to us like they don't like outsiders, but hey maybe it was just our experience. The place is beautiful the people were the strangest I've come across in all my travels

    Great free camp spot.

Stayed 12 April 2016. Room for 4, yes, 4 vehicles between sign posts if others don't try to hog up space!!!!! Has clean serviced all night toilets, cold outside shower (for washing off sand and salt water) and tap with drinking water. Wonderful beach with lots of islands. Can walk to nearest island at low tide. Highly recommend for self contained vehicles only.

A beautiful spot right at the beach for self contained campers, with a fantastic park/obstacle course with climbing walls, and a very fun flying fox, just behind the car park, which we loved, as did our

pre-schooler. Public toilets and a tap nearby. Lovely quiet & safe spot when we were there, room for a few camper-vans.
