This marine is a special area of coastal and marine environment in which marine life and natural features are legally protected. It's home to eight different marine habitats including inshore reef, rocky inter-tidal platforms and sediment flats.
Located at the northern end of Pouawa Beach, visit the marine reserve so that you can observe and enjoy the scenery and variety of life that flourishes in a protected environment. The beach and inter-tidal reefs, which are best explored at low tide, show a plethora of marine plants and animals. There is also a wide variety of bird life. There is no real walking track, but you can stroll the sandy beach easily. It's about 4km in length which takes an hour, or snorkel in the reserve to explore the channels close to the shore. Snorkelers can explore the rocks close to the shore. Divers will see a variety of seaweeds, kina, marine snails, sponges and many other marine animals.
NOTE: It is illegal to take, disturb, kill or damage anything within the reserve.
