Belmont Regional Park
If you like walking, mountain biking and stunning, well-earnt views, come camping at Dry Creek in Belmont Regional Park.
Camping is open 365 days a year. We do not take bookings so just turn up and find a spot. Then all you need to do is register, pay the camping fees, and enjoy.
Campsite has a Paywave option as well as a cash box for payments. The Park Ranger will make random checks.
Facilities:
Dry Creek has basic facilities including:
· Treated drinking water
· Outside sink
· Flushing toilets
There are no powered sites. If you require a powered site Kaitoke Regional Park campground has a limited number.
Campervans: Campervans and caravans can be parked anywhere in the designated camping area. Please be considerate of others and be mindful where you park.
There is no dumping station at Dry Creek.
Fees
Adults: $8 per night
Children (5-16 years): Adult rates apply for unsupervised 14-16 year olds,
$4 per night
Under fives: Free
Camping stay limits
You can stay up to:
· 40 days within a 12-month period.
· 14 days in the period between 20 December and 31 January.
Campfires: Fires are not permitted at Belmont Regional Park including the Dry Creek camping area.
Noise: Please respect other campers and always keep the noise levels down. Amplified music should be off by 9pm and no loud noise after 10pm.
Dogs: Dogs are welcome in the park (except farmland areas) and the campground. You need to make sure your dog is always under control which means they cannot wander through other campsites.
Keep your neighbours and other park users in mind and pick up your dog's droppings.
During summer when the campground is busy Park Rangers can require dogs to be on a lead.
Alcohol: Alcohol may be consumed responsibly by those over the age of 18. Underage drinking is not permitted in the park. Drunken and disorderly behaviour is not permitted and will result in eviction and trespassing from the park. Fines of up to $20,000 apply.
Security: The Park Ranger does not live on site. In an emergency please dial 111.

There is an automatic security gate.
Summer hours (1 Oct - 31 March): Opens at 5am and closes at 9pm.
Winter hours (1 April - 30 Sept): Opens at 6am and closes at 6pm.
No entry or exit outside of these hours. Ensure these times work with your requirements (such as ferry departure times) before staying.

Stayed a couple of nights in Feb.
Close enough to Wellington and a fun waterfall walk out the back. Plenty of grassy space (front and back were both open) and clean facilities, just needed to empty the sanitary bins. Would recommend using the nearby train station if you want a hassle free day trip to Wellington CBD.

Not a bad spot to stay for a night or two.
Two open areas to camp, Toilets okay and a sink to wash dishes or get drinking water. Would stay again as it’s close to Wellington ferry and beautiful nature all around you. Do the waterfall hike, wear shoes that can get wet!

Lovely spot with clean facilities and drinking water.
The rear campsite seems to be a popular spot for drug use as this happened twice whilst we were there, they seemed friendly enough but we moved to the front after.

We stayed here about two nights ago, and weren’t impressed.
They’re doing work around the park and potentially camping area right now, so everyone parked in the normal car parking spaces, so anything bigger than a car, like us, stuck out, one camper even scraped their van it’s that tight. We experienced a lot of road noise too. They only accept cash for payment and nowhere to pay that either. We couldn’t rate! Great walk in the morning though to Dry Creek Falls.

After arriving at Wellington with the ferry we drove to this cheap site.
Because of delays we got there early in the morning, there was still enough space for us. Toilet was nice and clean and it was very quiet, far away enough from the highway.

Stayed the night after the ferry, because the only free spot in Wellington was full by noon.
And I‘m very glad about it. It‘s a quick drive to get here, gate closes at some point but I think around 9pm. 8$ per adult, you just pay like on a DOC campsite, two flushing, clean toilets (only one was working when I was there, but wasn‘t a problem) and a sink to get fresh water or do some dishes. Campsite is deep enough in the woods so I did‘nt hear a thing from the street. Big grass area for tents, but also quite some spaces for Campervans. Highly recommend espacially on a stormy day to rather go here than stay in Wellington!

Well maintained and nice little campsite near the highway.
Wasn't too noisy for us. Two Celan toilets and fresh drinking water. 8 Dollar p.P.
Perfect for a day trip to Wellington or a sleepover before the ferry.

Close to road, but still quiet if you go back a little. Not too many spaces. A sheltered picnic table would have made it perfect, but still great value for the price given the location.

Fair amount of space if you drive on up the track.
Fine for overnight especially if self contained. Convenient for the ferry. You need the right money for the honesty box.

Great campsite!
Found this after all the places in and around Wellington were full. Lovely area with plenty of space. Flush toilets were clean, spacious and had running cold water as well as soap. Additional potable water tap outside. Note that the fees envelopes and box are next to the toilet block.

Best place for travellers which needs a cheap place to stay before or after the interislander ferry.
I staid there for 2 nights and took the train (8.50$ each way/30 Min.) to visit Wellington.
Campground fee is 8$ and had flushing toilets and water.

Good basic camp site.
There was only about 4 others when I stayed so plenty of space. Toilets and water. Can't get vehicle out after gates close(6pm) and nearest shops are about 5km. Although there is a train station about 1km away that comes hourly till ?pm

Lots of yummy blackberries to pick!
Good campsite - basic but nice

Clean fairly new toilet block plus drinking water right next to main area of campsite (no walk)
No shower or hot water but stream v nearby
Can do walks from campsite but over the stream so shoes will get wet!
Crickets were very noisy which can’t be helped !
Park ranger came daily about 8
Some of the area is a bit sloped/ not shaded. Wasn’t too busy when we stayed which meant only 2 toilets was fine but can imagine if when near capacity (says can fit 150 not quite sure how) could feel a bit cramped

There is some misinformation on this app but on 24th Jan 2019 it cost us $8pp in the honesty box and the gates were open when we arrived after 11pm.
Gravelled carparks, fields for tents and decent toilets in a beautiful bush setting. A great option for camping not far from Wellington City. Will stay again!

Awesome camp ground with honesty box alot of travellers that do not use public toilet and just squat which is not fair on others and have the cheek to leave there wipes there.
The toilets here were clean and just a pleasant spot

Easy to find site 20 minutes out of Wellington.
Toilet facilities were clean and there was drinking water available. I was told the gate would close at 6.30 and I was late off the ferry but just made it, not sure if the gate was ever closed though. 8$ fee per person, less for kids. Great for a nights peaceful stay.

Very nice campground close to Wellington (about 30min drive without traffic but it could be much more during morning and afternoon peaks).
You can stay on carpark before the gate but it is better to continue about 300m and there is another nice and maybe more quiet grass camping area. Everything very clean. Train station from/to Wellington. $8 one way pp.

Really easy to find.
The place is right next to the exit of the motorway, the 'Dry Creek Valley' is also advertised. At 8pm a cool ranger came who collected from each camper the money. The toilets were really far away, but the way there was really nice and you could also collect some blackberries there.

Nice hiking trails with beautiful view points.
Great, quick swim spot just above the Korokoro Dam right in the middle of the park.

We stayed one night.
It was very full. We paid $6 per person. The ranger takes your rubbish. Only 20 minutes from Wellington. Near the road, easy to find. Toilet far away, so we don't use it. Tables available.

Nice place to stay for one night, before heading south to Wellington.
But the place where we stayed is not situated as the same place indicated on the map, as said by the previous reviewer. It's on Hebden Cres, at the crossing with Haywards Hill Rd.
Moreover, the place is free and you don't need to call the ranger to get his agreement for the night, just wait for him when he comes to close the gates. He will just ask if you intend to stay for the night and that's it :) the gates will be open early in the morning anyway. The only bad point is that the toilets are located 400m away from there, along the little river.
And for those wanting to see the filming locations of the LOTR, you will be just next to Minas Tirith and Helm's Deep, which were filmed in the Belmont quarry.

Great campsite, surrounded in bush.
The toilet is quite a walk through it though, however it is clean and flushes! You do get locked in overnight, the gates close at 6pm winter and 8pm summer, unlocked the next morning at 8am. We stayed there two nights, no one came asking us for money.
The camp site is not where it says it is on the map however. You need to go more north, it's by state highway 58. There is a map in this entrance which shows where the correct camping spot is.
