Perfect for a one night stop.
The lake looks really nice and there are spots in the shade. The toilets are really basic tho but good for a night.

Stunning location beside the river, big grassy area, friendly campers, toilets, lots of space.
Busy b6 day with all sorts of water activities going on, and then quiet at night. I thought it would be full, but we had no trouble finding a spot at 5pm.

Great spot by the river close to Hobbiton tour with lots of spaces, even when arriving after 8pm.
Seemed to be a paid camping spot as well apart from the 30-40 freedom camping spots.
For some unknown reason the toilets were closed of with padlocks while we were there.

Decent stay for one night and pretty views of the lake.
There is plenty of space and quite a few people seemed to park outside the free camping area closer to the lake, although no one seems to monitor this. We arrived late at night but felt quite safe as there were a number of campervans/motor homes. It can be a distance to the toilets and they’re not the most well maintained but again, it was ok for one night. Possibly the main downside is it’s all on grass so if you have concerns about your vehicle getting stuck after heavy rain, it may not be the best place to stay. Fortunately, despite experiencing heavy rain ourselves, our campervan moved away fine in the morning.

Came in very late.
Lots of campers, close camping but still private n quiet. Toilets were clean enough (wet ground n grassy from use from dew n wet ground overnight) had toilet paper and soap, no showers at all (as other reviews indicate). Good easy camping.

As it is only around 15 min from hobbiton movie set we chose to try this one.
We arrived late around 11pm or 11:30pm something and still found a Spot. Plenty of space there. You should not Park on the sea-side, but no idea if someone is actually checking. Clean toilets with running tap. No drinking-water.

Loads of space and right on the lake, good toilet block.
BUT very busy and noisy with boats, jet skis etc. So depends if you mind that, even on a Sunday morning!

Great place, good for self contained campers, does get crowded, not so good for dogs as day trippers don't always have theirs on leads, no water.
The park at the end of the domain is wonderful. Dogs allowed. Water. Lakeside parking.
