Information

Waikari Reserve Camping Ground

The Waikari Reserve Camping Ground is administered by the Waikari Reserves Committee and it is cool! It is found just on Princes Street, Waikari.

It is fairly small with slightly old facilities, but very clean and a wicked score for the price you pay for it. It's a Sport Billy's paradise with netball courts and tennis courts across the way from a massive field. Awesome for families.

Best kiwicash place we've been to so far!

Nice lounge and big kitchen that is great if it is raining. Also walking distance to the hotel with beer if you fancy it.

    Great place!

With the kiwicash system you can have a great hot shower and cooling facilities! Very comfy social area with Couches to spend a rainy day.

LOST my ring there! If anyone finds a silver ring and is passing Christchurch or Lake Ellesmere til end of March 24 it would be so nice if you could take it there for me! Thank you <3.

Lovely wee campsite, a real gem.

Very friendly welcome, super clean facilities, modest cost $20 for 2. The shower costs an additional $2 and was well worth it; great pressure, scrupulously clean, lovely warm room. I highly recommend this site.

Excellent little campsite which Don & Karen took over the custodianship about 2 months ago.

Yes, it is quite old, but they are really looking after it well and nothing is too much trouble. They really care about this place and it is spotless. $10 per person for a power site, $2 for the shower. Great value.

Great walk along the disused railway line.

Great place for kids or sporty types as play park, tennis court and big playing field.

Hard to beat camp site for the price.

Considering the availability of hot water and other facilities. Kitchen was a nice size and most utensils were provided, just clean up after yourself and wash the dishes when you're done. Not the most scenic area but when you need a place to rest your head with a $2 hot shower just a stones throw away, a great place to stay.

Super friendly manager (Rob) who makes you feel very welcomed.

Wish we'd have had more time to stay longer. Facilities are very clean and well maintained. Only $5 per person for a tent site, but it has a kitchen (equipped with a small table, kettle, fridge, freezer, stove, pots & pans), flush toilets and hot showers ($2 per token). Even laundry ($2) is available. Fantastic value for money. Can only recommend.

What was once a ‘camping area’ is now a ‘caravan park’.

In the space of a year most of the power sites are taken by permanents who also have cars. What does this mean? You’re basically packed in like sardines! I won’t be surprised if all the sites get taken by permanents. This is a perfect example of Profit winning over preservation. It’s a real pity as it used to be a quaint little spot to tie you over for a night or two. Now it’s just a cheap caravan park to the locals. Pity!

Old camp ground with either very muddy or very hard ground.

Ridiculously noisy overnight with cows, dogs barking all night, and roosters in the morning. Might have been a particularly bad night, but certainly memorable for all the wrong reasons.

This was a strange little campsite sandwiched between a sports pitch and the road.

The price was cheap ($5 per person, plus $2 each for a shower and $2 for laundry), however the facilities were all a little bit grubby. Not awful, just in need of a good clean. Every Wednesday there's a big young people's touch rugby game that happens in the evening on the field which gave it a nice community feel. No views to speak of. Overall fine for a quick stopover but nothing special.

A little camp in a small village where they are trying hard to please.

We really enjoyed talking to the local retired person in the caravan, to the surprise of three small campers that we weren't expecting him to be there at 9:30pm, when they crept in hoping not to pay, Well done sir. And hope the new lino in the kitchen looks good, thanks.
