Cascade Creek Campsite
This is a standard campsite in northern Fiordland that is good for larger vehicles.
This large sheltered campsite is suitable for larger vehicles. There are lots of different areas to park up on and call your own and there is a large turning bay at the end of the gravel road. Toilets are quite new, but often quite smelly. Beautiful river nearby. Bring sandfly repellent.
This is a great place for fishing, swimming, BBQing and walking. The Lake Gunn Nature Walk starts from here, it is a flat, easy, 45 min return walk from the campsite to the edge of Lake Gunn

DOC Standard Campsite
Standard campsites have a more limited range of facilities and services than Serviced campsites. These campsites have toilets, a water supply that could be treated or untreated tap water, or from a stream or lake, and vehicle or boat access. Bring your own soap for washing hands. Untreated water should be boiled before use to ensure it's safe. Wood BBQs and fireplaces, cold showers, picnic tables, a cooking shelter and rubbish bins may be provided; this will vary from site to site.

Very nice views and the nearby short Lake Gunn walking track is pleasant.
The camping site is however quite big, and while that makes it almost certain you can find a spot it also makes it a lot less cozy.
Basic DoC site with only toilet and nothing else.

Large camping area able to accommodate many campers.
Bathrooms are clean. Non-potable water available. Beautiful scenery. The closest campground we could find to Milford Sound but the drive still took around an hour to get there.

Excellent proximity to Milford Sound.
Only one annoying camper with an errant flashlight: they settled, eventually! Easy to find and a great price. Track in was full of potholes, but it is what it is: just take it easy!

An absolute gem!
Beautiful this time of year! Very few here as it’s a wee bit chilly, but gorgeous! Massive site, lots of different spots away from trees for solar, entry in is a wee bit tight. No phone signal at all, but Starlink works a treat! Plenty of loo’s but they were mingin, though DOC did come round. Really loved it! Breathtaking views, and lots of sandflies. We did move sites early as one morning though as it rained hard and the river rose! DOC Campsite Pass is valid here, otherwise it’s $15.00 per adult! Make sure you do the little nature walk to Lake Gunn! Was great! Find us on YouTube! TASMAN TRAVELS

Price ($15pp pn) is for its location rather than facilities (long drop toilets which were very smelly).
Beautiful views. Convenient for doing the Lake Marian and Key Summit hikes too.

Most disgusting toilets ever, genuinely had to hold my breath or I'd throw up.
Location is great though and plenty of space. If you have your own toilet this place is probably fine.

This is the final DOC campsite before Milford Sound and it gets super busy at night.
However as a tent camper there are tons of spots in the trees where you can be private and not bothered by all the noise of the caravans. It has two cook shelters. Water that needs boiling. Two creeks. Lots of toilets. For how busy it is they so a good job managing the crowds. Just need to fill in all the potholes in the road. I find the ratings on here quite entertaining as this one is rated much lower than some far inferior campsites I stayed in which had better ratings. My guess is that self contained vehicle campers are the primary reviewers not tent campers like me.

15 dollars per person, really nice area.
But toilets are very disgusting! There is an open area to use like kitchen, nothing else.

It was nice to camp near the river and we liked the hike near the lake Gunn.

Drop toilets were clean but smelly, as long as you don't breathe through your nose you're fine.
No other facilities so I found it very pricey. I stayed at free campsites with better facilities. The views are absolutely stunning though. Super big campsite (120 spots). Views on the mountains and next to the river. Nice walking trek to/around lake Gunn. Also closest campsite to Milford sound (except for the holiday park in milford but that was sold out 2 weeks in advance when I was there). Beware of the sand flies.

We booked and payed online, but upon arrival there were only instructions on how to pay cash.
We used the cash check-in form and wrote down the booking number where the $ amount was supposed to go. Long drop toilets were close to overflowing and the shelter only has two walls, so they don't protect against wind. The water supply is rainwater from big tanks at the shelter. You must do your dishes in your car as there are no drains. The upside is the close location to Milford Sound and an access to a neat hike up to Lake Gunn. Other than that the only thing you get are sandflies (same as everywhere around Milford Sound)

Très bien, bien placé près de Milford sound, à côté d’une petite balade et du lac, c’est vachement chouette On est resté deux jours donc ça fait un peu cher, n’oubliez pas de prendre le pass comme nous

Campsite serves its purpose.
The closest low cost campsite to Milford Sound with a lot of space. Since we have the DOC pass, the price was okay. Non-flush toilets, which unfortunately smelled very bad. But for 1 night it was okay.

Toilets were either closed or absolutely filthy and smelt really bad.
Cooking area was also really dirty.
Probably the worst campsite we have stayed at in all of New Zealand, definitely not worth the money.

Loads of space, flat pitches, toilets all okay.
Non-potable water available. Some nice walks through the woods to do but main benefit is proximity to Mildrord Sound so breaks the drive and means we got there ahead of the tour groups the next morning.

No signal so bring a book, download podcasts, play card games, draw, etc. at night.

Beautiful location.
Drop toilets.
Nice walks in the area.
We camped right by the river. As usual, someone came in late and parked right next to us, invading our personal space, when there were literally acres of available sites to choose from. Please don’t do this!!!

Basic, yet still great.
Ample toilets, and centrally located hut for cooking. Great location, fantastic for stargazing.

Huge camp place, about half the toilets were out of service and the other half were really really stinky.
I suspect it's popular campsite since it's the closest to Milford.
We also had insane bugs the end of January but we parked by the river in an effort to find some shade so that might have been why.

Très cher pour les prestations.
Les WC sont très sales! Selles de partout , toiles d'araignée partout. L'odeur est horrible. Même pas de savon pour se laver les mains! C'est le 1er camping que je fais qui a des wc aussi sales.
J'ai mis la note de 2 car jolie vue et pas trop loin des fjord.
