Easy access on the outskirts of St Bathans.

Penty of room. A bit exposed but there are a few sheltered spots.

Massive site but apparently only 10 allowed probably because of the single long drop toilet, which was a little smelly but no worse than a festival loo.

We had an amazing sunset after a short walk to the great couple of beers at the Vulcan Hotel. A great historic place and we'll worth a visit. Had a lovely early morning swim in the lake on our way out.

Great spot.

I use this place often when travelling down south. Has a long drop and water (boil first)

Never very crowded, and a short stroll to the Vulcan hotel for a pint!

An amazing secluded spot with fantastic views of the mountains, and an easy walk to Blue Lake.

There is a very clean long drop and water tap, not drinking water though. Gave it an 9 as the entrance is to tight for large vehicles, we are 10 metres, and there tracks leading onto the main camping area had deep potholes and ruts. We parked at the entrance rather than inside the domain itself.

Massive flat camp site in a beautiful secluded spot - great for dogs to hoon around in the long grass.

So quiet - we were alone when we stayed. Really clean long drop toilet and water (boil before use). Perfect if you're looking for peace and quiet in a gorgeous setting.

Big camping ground in the middle of nowhere, but it's FREE.

No water, some benches and there's only one toilet. The ground it a little "wavy". I can't grade it better because it was the coldest night we had in New Zealand! In the morning our tents were completely frozen :S

You can walk from this campsite to the lake and the tiny township.

Even though there is plenty of space DOC limits it to ten vehicles so worth getting there earlier and then visiting the lake. Nice peaceful setting with great views of the countryside.

This place is a real gem.

Essentially a well maintained paddock amongst farmland with a few trees with one portaloo. Next to a very beautiful quintessential old gold mining town with a man-made lake. Loved this site a real highlight.

Fantastic secluded spot peaceful & relaxing place to stay there is 1 toilet & tap for water which states must be boiled before drinking or cooking first

This is a great spot for self contained vans to stay the night.

There is a toilet and running water but not much else except peace and quiet in the middle of nowhere. There is a box for donations to help maintain the site. The domain is located just a couple of kilometers from the Vulcan Tavern and Blue Lake walk.

This is a very secluded, very basic campsite...

exactly what we were looking for! Facilities are a tap and a long drop toilet.

The shelter belt is pretty sparse, so expect high winds at this spot. We arrived in the drizzle, and it blew for the three days we stayed here. Hay fever can be an issue in the summer months in this area.

The things we really loved about this spot were 1)There was no one else around 2)The only noises were the wind and sheep 3)sunset 4)The Nearby Vulcan hotel and St Bathan's township.

This is a superb spot if you don't want to have to share a campsite with 100's of other people and you are a fully self reliant camper.
