We came in late one night in mid April and it was like coming into an American civil war camp. Crowded, smoke, fires, dogs. friendly tho. A lot of the campers were here for gold prospecting. It's a real thing here. Nice site, for a night. Interesting walks.

Remote and small campsite.
Stayed here for one night in october, there were lots of free spaces left. Very quiet at night, only the sounds of birds and friendly weka’s.
No showers. The toilets and sinks were well maintained and clean.
A couple of walking tracks start from the campsite.
Nice place to stay for one night.

A smaller site that was $8 per person (bring cash as there is a deposit box monitored in the morning by DOC officers).
Lots of Weka that like to hangout as you cook breakfast in the morning, one even hopped in the car. Toilets are clean, with designated dishwashing area. There is also a bit of historical gold rush information displayed. Expect rain.

4 clean toilets but the campground is quite small, not a lot of sites - its compact.
Site is very nice overall, there are some full time gold panners, some with interesting stories and some seem to want to keep to themselves. Lots of shade if you like, and some shy but curious weka.

Amazing little campsite, very sheltered.
8 bucks a night for adults as I remember. Flushing toilets in a toilet block so clean you could sleep on the floor. Has some river to go and explore. Plenty of different areas and little bays to lay a tent. 100% recommend this place if i the area

I got lost trying to find this place, but I was cycling the West Coast Wilderness Trail so it required me to detour.
Nice campsite with lots of trees for shelter and clean toilets. Arrive early to get yourself a good camping spot though.

good camp spot.
4 flushing toilets that are well maintained as well as water supply and sinks for washing up. quite a bit of space however did seem to fill up a lot at night (december) however very few longer stay campers except those mining for gold. If looking to stay there longer than one night suggest getting there around the middle of the day to find a better site. Nearer the entrance does lose the sun sooner.
No cell reception at this site, however you can walk up the pack track and get reception up there (30mins walk) or just drive up to stafford cemetery or approx 7 mins towards kumara.
As with all NZ campsites there are mosquitos & sandflies however we found them not as bad as at other campsites, so we found them very tolerable.

Great spot, loved the comical Weka's chasing you around for food, wouldn't eat apples but loved sausages as it turned out!
It was wet and miserable when we stayed so didn't get much opportunity to discover more. Good facilities.

Lovely tidy and clean.
There were wekas (not Kiwi lol) but as per usual if you keep your camp tidy it's all good! We stayed here during a bit of bad weather and the camp was very sheltered. The surrounding roads were blocked by fallen trees in the morning but the camp was safe even in our tent!

Can't fault this site.
Nice walks from the site and really peaceful Toilets are really clean and decent facilities. Some of the local gold diggers are a bit rude but that's expected. (I was just interested in how things go on around that place).

This place is a bit of a detour from the mainroad but worth it.
Basic but well maintained DoC site. Has plenty of information on walks around the campground and the history of goldborough. There's some kind of shelter and pickinicktables you can use, flush toilets and drinking water. Private and more open spaces both. Enjoyed staying here. Be sure the walk the 20minute tunnel track further along the road, it is a nice easy walk.

Excellent DOC campsite.
New toilet block with attached benches for food preparation & dishes. Cleaning and rubbish removal seem to be regular and effective. A lot of interesting walks around the campsite and safe mine tunnels (accessible from the road) about 1 km south of the site. The campsite is a logical stop-off point for people driving from Canterbury / Arthurs Pass to the Coast and in the summer holiday season the camp was quite busy with a lot of car-campers arriving in the late afternoon. The camping space is not huge and in wet weather many of the grassy tent sites become too boggy for use.

Toilets clean. Close to a few nice walking tracks. Bugs weren't too bad either. Would definitely stay again. Good place to stop for the night if heading to Arthur's pass or coming from the pass and don't want to go all the way to Hokitika.

This spot is a little gem hidden away in the bush and close to Hokitika.
It's a DOC site and only cost us $18 for a family of 4 to stay the night. The family enjoyed exploring the area and there are interesting walks located close to the site. The flush toilets look brand new and there are sinks as well but bring a torch to find your way in the dark. The glow worm dell in Hokitika (free) is only a 10 minute drive away and worth a visit. It's like being surrounded by little stars.
