Asked for a heater in the room after the first night,never been staying somewhere where there isn't a heater in the room.
Text the number on bathroom wall to remind them but on our 4 nights we didn't get a heater.
830 one morning the lawns were being mowed.
No respect for people staying at the camp

Had our annual family long weekend here, fantastic as usual, kids and adults loved the beach (although windy) but then there is always the pool for the kids, tidy and clean with very friendly staff, our
four direct families and then the 4 other families making up our tribe will be back again in 2022. Again guys and gals thanks for a great time.

Great camp ground near the beach.
Pegasus village is only a short bike ride or walk away and has a bar and bottle shop, and a cafe. Take away within walking distance too.
New kitchen, older showers and toilets but perfectly adequate.
We will definitely be back.

I love this place.
It’s right next to the beach, very friendly owners, and they have ice cream. The bathrooms are standard and the kitchen big. There is a “TV lounge” for plugging in devices and hanging out. Plus, there’s free WiFi for a day!

2nd year camping at waikuku loved it kids had a ball they loved all the activities and New Year’s Eve was awesome.
Lovely staff and efficient cleaning and the knew kitchen is great

Stayed here for one night 29/12/16 and wished we'd gone elsewhere.
The worst campsite we've stayed in and not value for money to stay here. Mediocre facilities for toilets and showers that were not always very clean. Every site is jammed in on top of each other. Go elsewhere if you can as we wouldn't recommend.
We are sorry that this was your experience and our Holiday Park did not meet your expectations.
Our site rates are on par with the low end rates nationwide.
We are the first to admit our facilities are aged but more than fulfill their purpose, and we are however working hard to remedy this, starting with a new Kitchen coming in the 2017 off-season.
We are proud of the work our cleaners put in. We thoroughly clean our Facilities twice daily in peak times. Due the sheer volume of campers and constant use of the facilities at this time of year, We think the statement ‘that were not always very clean’ coupled with you only stayed a single night to be an unrealistic expectation.
Our site sizes range from regulation size minimum to 2 or even 3 times that size. We have a lot of regular groups camping with us at that time of year; many book multiple sites together and spread across them so site lines can become blurred. It is also a personal choice for how much gear campers put on the sites, with some certainly choosing to maximize the allotted space.

First off, you get what you pay for so it is much cheaper than a Top 10 site and as such we didn't have as high expectations.
Unfortunately those were not even met... Although I can say the staff was very nice! First off, it is not actually on the beach, it is about a 5 min walk over to the beach. Second, there are a ton of (I counted 44) permanent campers there even though I didn't see people in half of them - very weird. And the spots are packed in like sardines. The facilities were very old and dilapidated. Granted we were there in the winter but even for the off season half the things didn't work. And hot water in the showers is limited to 6 minutes (token based) but forget getting it in the kitchen for dishes or in the bathroom to wash your hands (the water is pretty cold when it's 35 degrees outside). The dump station is just a hole in the middle of the driveway when you pull in... Again fortunately it wasn't busy when we came but very awkward when there were other cars trying to get by. We stayed the night for free down the coast right on the beach the night before so maybe we were just a little spoiled. I felt like we basically just paid for electricity... The amenities were not there.
Thank you for taking time to review us, and for your kind comments about the staff. There is a shelter belt of trees on the sand dunes between the holiday park and the sea. Out of 193 campsites, we have approximately 50 with annual parking privileges for which they pay a fee. They aren't actually living here. There are 3 kitchens. The boiler is off in one of those kitchens for the winter, but there is hot water available from the "zip" water heater, which is fairly common amongst older holiday parks. We apologise if you were not made aware of that.

Lots of permanently pitched old buses and caravans.
Off season it all looked a bit messy. $34 for 1 night also made it the most expensive campsite I have stayed at. Facilities were fair not as bad as I feared but the shower token gives more like 2 minutes than 5. Luckily I was given 3 of them.
Thank you for your review. Out of 193 campsites we have 3 buses and 53 caravans that stay on site. Most of these are weekenders. We wonder where you have been staying. In a current tariff survey undertaken by the holiday accommodation park association, we are on the average to low end of the tariff scale. We are sorry that you found it a bit messy. Our facilities are cleaned daily, so we think you must be referring to the grounds. We are a family operated holiday park, and we'verecently had an illness in our family that has demanded much of our time and attention. Our focus is back on the holiday park and we are working daily to improve the appearance.

A short distance north of Christchurch and a short walk from the beach.
Older facilities, but very clean. The night we stayed it was very quiet with only 3 or 4 other campers. The overnight rate for a powered site was $34.00. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

This seemed a real back to basics campsite compared to some we have been to.
The shower and toilet blocks are small and dated, you have a token to operate the showers (6 minutes), the rubbish is collected in painted oil drums. However, it is right beside a gorgeous long beach, and the showers themselves were powerful and hot. It was quiet when we visited, but with only one washing machine, one tumble dryer and three sinks and two showers in the area we stayed, we suspect at peak times the toilet and shower blocks would be pretty stretched.
Thank you for your observations. We are an old fashioned kiwi coastal campground and we love our beach. So glad you mentioned it!
The area you have described has another toilet block with 8 additional toilets. We have several amenities blocks throughout the holiday park bringing the total number of toilets to over 30 and showers to 18. We have two other kitchens and laundries as well. It doesn't make economic sense to keep all the facilities open during the quieter months, so we generally shut down some of the amenities blocks after Easter.
We are working with our local Council, who is our landlord, to upgrade our facilities, as the older buildings are a bit dated. Our priority at the moment is to improve the drainage and roadways within the holiday park. While we would love to refurbish the buildings, they are still very functional, and as you say the showers are powerful and hot. We kept the token system as part of our initiative to reduce our carbon footprint through the reduction of hot water usage, and it also prevents visitors to the beach who are not campsite guests from getting free showers at our campers expense. It is a very popular beach in summer.
The oil drums you mentioned are actually syrup drums from a soft drink bottler. We have separate containers for glass, plastic, cans, paper/cardboard, and rubbish. It made sense to us to reuse these drums that were made available to us, rather than having them go to scrap metal.
Again, we thank you for your review. It is important to us to see our campsite from our guests point of view.

We are fortunate to have dedicated staff who take pride in keeping the facilities clean and maintained. You are correct in observing that it is an older campground. We have one regular camper who has been coming here for over 60 years!

Very friendly and helpful staff ('living angels' ;o) you know who you are) who were most welcoming and obliging.
Near the beach and a good stop en route back to Christchurch. Was a whistle stop visit so didn't really see much of the facilities and area.

Thank you for taking time to review us. All customer feedback is important to us so that we can improve your holiday experience with us. We are glad that you mentioned our close location to the beach; our campground is often a destination for both domestic and overseas guests. Because we are located only 30 kms from Christchurch and have 193 campsites located less than 200 meters from the beach, we have high demand for on-site parking agreements by Kiwis who love to spend weekends at the beach. At present we have chosen a limit of 60 sites that are subject to on-site parking agreements, leaving 133 campsites available for casual campers. Some stay only one night; while others spend their whole annual leave here. We do not permit campsites to be used as a primary residence, with the exception of one staff member who lives on site. As we are a traditional Kiwi coastal campground, the majority of our guests are repeat customers who for years have enjoyed the privilege of setting up their campsites a few days before their camping holiday begins, so at times it may appear that there are more "permanent" vans than is actually the case.

We appreciate your feedback. We wonder if we gave you a site map with all of our facilities indicated. While our kitchens and bathroom facilities are often busy during our peak season, we have 3 kitchens, 2 toilet blocks, and 2 ablution blocks with both showers and toilets. Additional showers are also adjacent to one of the kitchens. In future, we will endeavour to make sure all guests are aware of alternative facilities available in the park.
