Great campsite.
Toilets and showers are really clean. Free unlimited shower, water pressure was great. Well-equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook: pans, tongs, ladles, etc. Also have toaster, oven, pressure cooker. We had a great stay.

Waterside pitches for a small extra fee. Accessibility obviously important as all bathrooms accessible to all. Best showers yet. Small issue with laundry quickly remedied by smiling office staff who were genuinely happy to help. 5 mins walk from Farewell Spit tour office.

Relatively small site but right on the coast.
Could see the sea ( although we weren’t able to get a spot next to it - which meant we had more room and was good for second night when I suspect it was windy).
Showers were really powerful and hot. Handy location to drive up to Farewell spit without having to stay up there were it’s super windy. WiFi and kitchen good.

A little gem in the bay.
Beautiful landscape, very clean place and quiet.
Kitchen was a bit small but the camp was not full and not so many people were using it so it was fine and it was a good occasion to chact with the other super nice campers.
Thank you to the owners who care so much and are really making us feeling great here.

Amazing spot right by the beach, the only drawback is if you’re tenting they really cram you in.
We had 4 other tents right next to us with no real privacy. If you’re in a caravan or something probably a much better experience. Facilities are great, the powerful shower might knock you off your feet!

I can't understand why people gave it 9/10 or 10/10.
Honestly being locals new zealanders
Or 5/5 or 4/5 etc etc
Deserves a minimum rating you can!
$15 not worth it.
Might $5 or 6 per persons
Unless they improve lot of stuff and especially their customers service!!!
Found this review on the Google review
Self explanatory
I honestly don’t understand the criteria for people to rate this place 5 stars!!! At least for camping, this was by far the WORST experience ever! The owners/staff just treat you as if they are doing a favor for you to be there, even paying NZ$15 pppn. Although THE OWNERS CONTEST MY REVIEWS, even having bbq and pizza oven, when I asked them to use it, the staff said it was only for guests. So, the tiny little camping kitchen was completely busy and we couldn’t have food until late that night. There is no oven available, just a small camping stove (see pics). There are written signs in the kitchen saying that cutlery and plates are available upon request on main kitchen only.
I agree with this one.
Campsite behind the barn is full of horse poo no where to pitch a tent.
And the whole site not child safe and friendly.
We had 2y 8m old child with us!
And when we tried to make them understand that site wasn't child safe the host gave us a weird look and said they are not responsible and care about child safety but that we have a watch our child like a prisoner(Wouldn't understand that child can even run away while you constantly watching them).
And my wife said after this she felt like she is being balmed for not being a good parent!!!
Host didn't bother about contacting owner to resolve the issue or for child safety.

Nice friendly checkin. Cost $34 powered site. No cost for shower. New management. Has two toilet blocks, we used the older block as close to our camp site. Shower/toilets in pods okay and plenty of hot water and water pressure. Kitchen area open area, but clean and tidy. Hot water for drinking. Dishing washing liquid etc. Used TV room to watch the news. Two minutes walk to the pub for takeaway fish and chips.... also recommend. Recommend to others.

Council owned site with new managers (8 weeks in!) doing a really great job.
Great mix of sites, we had a misunderstanding on what we needed (we’re SUV + awnings + swags, and got allocated a gravel powered hardstand) but managers went out of their way to make a site for us! Good kitchens, laundry, bathrooms are cute self contained little pods in a larger shed. Swimmable beach just around the corner and when the tides and sunsets combine it’s good sport watching the anglers from a camp chair. Will go back.

Superb site!
Why can't they all be this good? Chris is very friendly and helpful. The location is wonderful - looking over the bay and Aorere River estuary to the Kahurangi National Park. The town is 2 minutes walk and there are very few bugs.
The price is only $20pp for a powered site with water, showers and dump station all free and everything works and is spotlessly clean.
The laundry has several machines, several driers and a huge communal rotary washing line. The kitchen and common areas looked very well equipped although we didn't use them.
The spotless ablutions were the best we have seen anywhere. You get a private pod with a toilet, shower, basin, mirror, shaving point, bin, soap all free with unlimited hot water. No struggling with press in taps or meters waiting to cut you off just as you get soap in your eyes. And the whole thing is protected from bitey things by your own mosquito net. How thoughtful!
We will be back.
