Welcome to Athenree Hotsprings & Holiday Park!
Athenree Hot Springs & Holiday Park is your family park of choice. Located in New Zealand's sunny Bay of Plenty region, at the northern end of Tauranga Harbour. Our all-season Athenree accommodation has a tranquil, park setting with magnificent mature Puriri trees and an abundance of native birds. Great memories are created and a relaxing holiday for the whole family is guaranteed, as well as the family dog (except over our peak Christmas period).
There are many activities in the area and we offer several great accommodation options for you to choose from. We have spacious 2-bedroom Motel Units and Deluxe Chalets available (each with Freeview, SKY and Netflix), also Standard, Deluxe and Dog friendly cabins (share park facilities) and we certainly don't compromise on space for camping with our range of tent and campervan sites.
Our two Natural Thermal Mineral Pools are free for our guests to enjoy. The pure thermal water feels silky and soft on the skin and is perfect for relaxing in after a long day sightseeing. There is a continuous flow of spring water in the pools, creating bubbles to help soothe away any aches. Both pools are drained and thoroughly cleaned daily so you can be guaranteed a special experience in our chemical free pools.

Thermal Pools Athenree Holiday Park’s hot pools are open every day for our guests from 8.30am until 7.30pm at no extra charge. The public are also welcome to use our hot pools from 10:00am until 7:30pm daily. Last public admissions to the pools is 7:00pm. |

Stayed over a couple of nights so my teenager could go to a birthday party in Waihi. Easy to understand why the park is booked out over December and January, but a great park for any time of year as it's well sheltered and restful. Lovely BBQ area (liked the pizza oven) and well equipped main kitchen, including utensils, pots and pans. A great place for full time travelers and part-time van travelers to recharge, do the laundry and get some good meals in! Close enough to Waihi Beach township - the fish and chips, Indian Takeaways and Bakery are awesome, not to mention the Flat White Café. Island View Fish and Chips were very good and only 6 minutes away!

Enjoyed two nights here made the most of the hot pool but it does close early at 7.30pm.
The owners were very friendly as were the other campers staying.
Had a great spot considering how wet it was didn’t get stuck. Was a bit small wouldn’t have got my awning out if it was summer but I saw larger sites available.
Facilities were old but well maintained and looked after.
Dogs allowed
Washing and drying is $2 each so good value.
Showers free and nice and hot.

Absolutely awesome spot!!
Staff were so welcoming, facilities were great. Wish we could stay longer. The pools were lovely and the hot showers were beautiful after being on the road for ages. Definitely coming back.

Clean clean shower (showers are free to use plenty of hot water) and toilet blocks separate men's and women's altho one day a couple shared their shower while I was at the handbasin having a shave!
Loved this place have driven past the Athenree access road from SH2 many many times but this was the first time venturing down it and into this amazing camping ground
Nice usable kitchen need to take your own cutlery pots etc altho campers have been donating their excess cutlery etc such as spatulas serving spoons slotted spoons there's also 2 large BBQs a pizza oven and a BBQ hotplate thingy all free to use in a very large outdoor dining area altho it does have a roof covering it all
Camping sites of all kinds scattered thru out the complex campervan caravan powered and unpowered plus a large number of tent sites plus they have cabins of all sizes from 1 person to 4 or 5 or more most have private TVs
There are 2 TV rooms one of which has access to SkyTV free to use
Trampoline for the kids plus a large park opposite with plenty of kids play equipment swings slides etc
Large swimming pool with heated spring water free to use by campers small charge for locals or visitors
Dogs are allowed no extra charge we had our dog with us

Worse nightmare of my life.
Horrible place. Showers are disgusting too. Never ever again shall i go there an im telling everyone i know. Dont waste youe time going to this ripoff pigpit !

This is a small and friendly site with Tidy clean washrooms, which are a bit older, and amazing hot pools.
The pitch however was tiny and the place crowded in Dec. The campsite is in a cul-de-sac and is very calm but there is also nothing around in walking distance. We had a good time and the kids enjoyed the pools.

Thanks for taking the time to place your review and comments. Your site was 71.5m2 which more than comfortably fits a 7.5m camper. I think you will find most campgrounds are very full at the end of December. Our older facilities have stood the test of time and were resurfaced a couple of months ago. The campground is ideally located for guests to enjoy the serenity of the estuary. Pleased to know you enjoyed your stay

Arrived Saturday afternoon very welcoming staff.
Facilities very clean. was raining and waited a while before going for a swim but a code brown prevented us going in staff very apologetic. Had to empty pool .Able to have a lovely clean swim in the morning . We'll worth a visit we will go back.

Excellent holiday park.
The hotpools are well maintained and water clean. Powesites are large with room for awning and well maintain grass. We enjoy our stay and will be added to our agenda as a favorit place. A big thank you to the staff for warming welcome and helpfull advice.

Lovely place to stay, but were very disappointed with Manager asking us to turn music down at 3.30 in the afternoon, when 1 person complained and other people in the camp ground had their music on just
as loud. Probably will not be back.
We are sorry Gayle but when one of our guests make a complaint we are not able to ignore it.

When we first came here we knew it would be our go to get away place.
Probably one of the cleanest camps in the Country and Garry and Sue are so friendly and helpful. The pools are stunning and very clean as they empty and wash them out each night, no chlorine!! I heard Garry and Sue are retiring so I hope the new managers are just as efficient and pleasant to deal with, we will miss seeing them around. We highly recommend a stay here if youre in the area and so much cheaper than Waihi beach.

A really nice place to stay for the night.
The toilets and showers are really nice.
$50 is quite expensive for 2 adults. But when you keep in mind that you many other places will pay $40 for something similar, the last $10 is well spend for the hot pools.
Do yourself a favour and get up early to be in the pools before you check out. It definitely feels like you get an hour extra of sleep when you have been in these pools.

Nice spot, clean facilities, owners are very kind.
25 $ ppn powered sites, free unlimited showers. Free access to Hot Pools. No minerals in the water, just 35 degrees warm and a heated pool of 39 degrees. Lots of birds around.
Great! Thanks for the kind words and nice to know you enjoyed your stay with us. There are minerals in the pools but the water is not highly mineralised so no smell or tarnishing of jewellery. Rates to stay are even less from tomorrow and we do specials in winter too. Thanks again for the comments.

Nice very clean camp right on tidal estuary with free access to hot pools.
Although our site was right next to the mudflats it was difficult to get to the water. Lots of birds feeding on the mudflats.

Our favorite camping experience from our month long camping road trip.
The owner gave such a warm greeting. She walked us around the campground to show us the facilities, and found us a nice quiet tent site tucked back away from everyone. Highly recommend. The hot pools are incredible, but they do close at 7:30 pm for cleaning so make sure you get there in time for a soak!

Wonderful bird life in the estuary but few places to walk

I’m an ocassional hot pool customer with a pre paid account.What impresses me is firstly the staff,how friendly and positive they(Sue got to know my name almost immediately the first time I visited the
pool and is always pleasant friendly and always remembers my name) and secondly how clean and well presented the hot pools are and their charges are reasonable too.Lovely mosaic murals decorate the walls around the large pool giving pool users something pleasant to admire.I warmly recommend both kiwis and tourists alike to seek out this little local gem near Waihi beach and experience the pleasure of these hot pools,pools which are emptied and refilled every evening.We are fortunate to have such a lovely local facility .

After a long day out exploring in the rain, we were keen for a bit of extra luxury than a DOC site.
As soon as we saw this place had thermal springs we were sold. All the staff were so friendly, we had a beautiful spot with no one around while we watched the sunset over the water from our van. The hot springs were exactly what we needed and enjoyed warming ourselves up. The warm showers helped too! The kitchen is fantastic, there are laundry facilities and could not recommend this place more. We can’t believe we stumbled onto such a gem. Thank you everyone involved.

Lovely quiet park with large green grassy sites.
Thermal pools a big draw card, but also available to local community so quite busy and a bit grimy at the end of the day. Pool emptied and cleaned daily so morning swim was fantastic. Very clean but dated and limited bathroom facilities. Quite expensive considering facilities. Great for a couple, but couldn’t stay for long with a family.... perhaps that’s the appeal!

Staff were friendly, unit was very clean & comfortable , pool was wonderful, the park facilities & surroundings were very clean & tidy. Very quiet complex with lovely outlook. Will definitely be back. Highly recommend

This was the cleanest site we visited on our 5 week trip the place is lovely in a beautiful setting.
It is a bit remote but that makes the place special.
We had a mix up on our dates and the office were friendly and accommodating I only wish we could have stayed longer.

This was our second trip to Athenree Hot Springs Holiday Park and we're already planning our next!
We absolutely loved it again! So clean and well set up. Staff super friendly and helpful. The mineral pool is great, and it's lots of fun taking a kayak or stand up paddling board to the bay right next to it. Very family friendly. Thank you again for an awesome holiday!
