It’s nice, and $20 per person for non powered site, so average price.
However come Easter and the facilities were strained. They packed the people in and it became very noisy.

Pretty average campsite.
Facilities were outdated and small for the amount of campsites available. Could do with a bit of love. Drinking water was questionable.

Not our cup of tea.
Cramped, lots of permanent camps. If you like socialising or look for kids' activities, this may be for you. If you like peace and quiet, and enjoy some privacy, go elsewhere. We mainly staid as there are no public dumping facilities north of Kaitaia.

Amazing place for staying.
You just have to take a look at the "locals" inside there for realizing that they really make their best. We've spent 2 nights and it was really really good. The staff so helpful and nice.

The price is not 15$ (as rankers mentiones) for a non-powered site, but 17$.
Besides that a shower costs 1 dollar (machine doesn't always work properly, had to shake it a couple of times) and the WiFi is not for free!
My opinion is that is is too expensive. The kitchen and shower are clean though, but small and nothing special. I think 15$ with free showers and WiFi would be a better price.

Stayed for 2 nights here on the way to Cape Reinga.
Wish I had read the reviews first but this place is so run down! Most of the spots close to the beach were taken up by permanent caravans with studios/flats built onto them. All of which looked dirty. Showers were the worst. 50c for a hot shower. There were 3 of us at the time and even though we put money in, all were cold. No hot water! Water pressure was really non existent to say the least. Small kitchen but large covered outdoor dining area. Toilets were not clean. Short stroll past the permanent caravans down to the beach. Very beautiful beach though. They have a pool too (extra cost) but we didn't use it. Staff tried to charge us twice as they said we didn't pay for the first night. Luckily I had my receipt. Plus i needed a touch key to open the gate, from reception, when you pay....to get into the campgrounds 😒

This is my wife and I's fourth week touring the North Island in a campervan and I'm sorry to say this is my first review.
Having paid $38 plus $2 for wifi and $1 each for showers In my opinion this site is so far the worst value for money we have stayed at. I only wish I had walked around and checked the facilities before checking in, I would highly recommend anyone staying here do this first. As previously stated the site is mainly taken up by permanent caravans, We chose a pitch in front of the toilets/kitchen area not realising we would have static caravans on three other sides. Other than that I have to say the common area is untidy and the toilet/shower blocks could do with a good clean. It is however close to a lovely beach. Sorry to say I wouldn't stay here again.

passed here on our way to cape reinga in September 2015.
Hi folks,
Was our second stop in NZ. The campground is a basic used campground frequented by many boat people. Had nothing special to offer for us. The staff was very friendly and the place quite clean, though quite old and worn down.
Cheers

A beautifully peaceful spot in July.
Has everything you need in terms of kitchen, laundry and (paid) showers but it's definitely a rural vibe, nothing fancy. Possibly the most tranquil place I have ever stayed. If you had a boat of some kind and fishing gear you could live off the land (well, water). Loads of wildlife right in front of you. Might not be so appealing in high season as it seems quite small and compact but I can understand why there are so many statics here. There's a decent Four Square a short drive away, along with a takeaway, and a restaurant that's slightly closer.

Close to Wagener/Subritsky Homestead.
Facilities are clean. Not a really big kitchen, but there are BBQ, pizza oven and one more cooker outside under the roof so enough place for cooking. Paid showers (I think 50c, but not sure), hot water in seconds and very good pressure, enough time. Right in the bay, so very nice views.

Wageners we stayed for one night had no problems the lady at reception was very helpful, we were there in February and after the holiday madness so we could pick our spot to camp and with no neighbours
. The campsite is not all that flat but adds an interesting element. The showers were of good value, pay a dollar or two in the machine for your water as you need and were warm. Its setting and surroundings are nice and only a five minute drive up the road to the closest Four Square.

I came to Wageners for a 'look up north'.
this was September 2013, not only did i love the area, great fishing fantastic campground and location, but Alan & Amy are great hosts. they always go that extra mile and have made it a pleasure to stay long term. Even over christmas with 300 full sites and a few drunks causing the usual issues I felt safe and found all the additional staff to be friendly and helpful where ever they could. Fantastic effort guys thanks!!
