A bit of a disappointing start as we had to venture back to chch depot as we had problems with the locking of main door, but really we just weren't shown the key system.
Overall it was fine, camper went well. We did email asking to have camper an extra night but nobody got back to us. Mo was great, an asset to the chch team I would say, very friendly and helpful. Loved the experience

Our Mighty Campers experience in New Zealand was a calamity from start to finish.
Title: "Mighty Disaster: A Lesson in Regret"
The fresh water tank served up a bacterial buffet, turning the term 'fresh' into a cruel joke. Leaking hatches turned rain into an indoor water feature, while the water pump doubled as a sleep-depriving orchestra.
With over 250,000 kilometers proudly displayed on the odometer, the van was a relic of vehicular misery. The rebellious fridge door, a flying projectile, and the absurdly short water hose added to the comedy of errors. The interior resembled a post-apocalyptic battlefield, and the engine light, flashing more codes than a computer virus, required road assistance to perform a digital exorcism.
In short, Mighty Campers' van was a parade of disappointments, a cautionary tale for any future travelers. Save yourself the trouble – never again with Mighty.

The Van was in an unacceptable state of damage when picked up and was suprised it would be rented with as many dings.
Sliding door didnt close properly due to damage and door alarm went off as soon as we left the rental yard. The Van started getting an oil warning light so we called Mighty and went to specified mechanic who diagnosed blown rocker cover and sever oil leak and advised dangerous to drive. Mighty did not help at all and left us stranded for 5 hours with no assistance or advice on when or where a replacement vehicle would be available. Mighty then advised to drive the vehicle around town after mechanic warned of van potentially catching fire. After many phone calls and pleading several times for assistance and next steps we were repeatedly ignored as we waited 5 hours until we were left with no other option other then move the van out of workshop or pack our bags and be on foot. I had to beg the mighty representative to review and follow their policies regarding break downs with continued ignorance and delay tactics. Absolutely disgraceful quality of vehicle and even worse service. On dusk we received a call to drive the unfit vehicle to a camp site with no confirmation of what was to become of our situation the following day.

We are renting a 4 berth camping car from mighty and we are pretty unhappy with the price/quality ratio.
First the fleet is described as recent but we have a 250k km camping car experiencing some troubles, AC doesn’t work, gas bottle belt broken, fire gaz cook board not working properly, read lamps broken, rain leaks on the top bed, fridge door lock broken, water gauge doesn’t work, etc. 400$ per day is very expensive for such camper quality. When we discuss that during picking up it is just like that.
So regarding our experience is low fleet quality and poor service at the office. The initial check was focused only on the outside state of the van, the mighty guy doesn’t want to check inside.

There were problems with the handover which was lacking in detail!
The isolater switch was not on despite being told the 240 volt cable was connected when given the vehicle (this had to be stowed). The person doing this did not stow steps correctly so these were lost. The toilet flush tank was not full and when I contacted the service on how to fill the tank, they did not get back. The initial advice was to use the shower to flush which is what we did for the hire. The front right cabin window leaked when rain hit the window directly (half a bucket over 24 hours makes a real mess). The reversing camera virtually useless. However Roadside service to fix a punctured tire was excellent. The spare tire was crappy. The tools provided in the van was not really adequate I.e too light for weight of vehicle and torque required to safely complete the job.

THEIR problems, YOUR responsibility!
After nearly 3 months, we are now done trying to fight our rights with this company.
The compensation we have been offered for our troubles is a joke, compared to how big of a company this is and how many problems we were facing.
Here are some of the problems you would be looking at, if you decide to rent through THL:
- Completely worn-down vehicles – I mean, REALLY worn down!
- Engine light flashing non-stop (which is the car telling you there is something wrong!)
- Dining table not functioning.
- Black water coming from the faucet – so disgusting!
- Problems with the airbag, and the airbag light flashing.
- Several bites on your body, very similar to bed-bugs bites.
- Water leaking under the fridge, making your entire floor wet by an unknown fluid.
- Handbrake not working.
- And many more…
If you want anything to be fixed, please allow approximately two days for each fix, which is great when a handbrake, for an example, doesn’t work
– great thing that New Zealand is such a flat country (hence the irony).
We used a lot of days on waiting at different shops and mechanics, so be prepared for that as well.
Moreover, please do not expect the support staff to have any homogeneous knowledge – the answer you’ll get, will depend on the staff you are talking to, and you will have to use a lot of time on back and forth communication with them – on your expense.
The staff at the branches gives you an impatient and careless attitude, and you will be both ignored and treated unprofessional while waiting.

Mighty campers gave us the oldest campervan unit within the terms of our rental.
It had tons of water damage. Both black and grey water tanks still full. the tires were about worn out and the brakes didn’t work well. On the inside there was mold growing on the air vent and it smelled like a wet dog. The Mighty employee admitted it was a bad camper when he showed us around but he didn’t after to change it. Being novice campers We traveled in this old smelly campervan for 2 weeks until we couldn’t stand it.
In Christchurch we swapped for a much newer campervan. They did the swap with no questions but it was right before the lockdown so I don’t think the staff cared.
Now we’re in the 4 week lock down in a newer cleaner van.

Through Rankers, we booked a 2 person campervan with toilet & shower from Mighty for 16 days in the second half of February 2020, starting and finishing in Christchurch.
The van was from 2013 and had 255,000 km on the clock. Externally it was easily the scruffiest van going out that day. Internally it was well equipped and comfortable, and it drove well. There turned out to be 2 minor faults with the van - 2 of the curtains kept sliding off their rails until we fixed them with bluetack and the satnav was pretty useless as it kept cutting out, was silent and was not bright enough for the driver to see. Otherwise it was fine. The collection process at Christchurch was slow and chaotic. We were told to come at 10.30am but were not seen until 11.20 then, after we had been taken to our van we waited more than an hour before anyone came to show us how to use it - the whole morning gone. While we understand that we were hiring in the high season, we think the price of over $NZ6000 for 16 days is high for such an old van. We knew we would need to take out CDW insurance with Mighty on top of the hire cost and were also persuaded to buy a quick return package when we checked in, so that was a further £NZ1100 dollars. Using a campervan does give extra flexibility compared to motels, campsite cabins and B&Bs but, if I ever tour New Zealand again, I'll certainly choose thes over campervan.

Positives: Extremely helpful and friendly staff at the pick up point.
.well stocked van for cooking. —spacious, great shower.
Attic bed great for kids...very comfortable and safe with the net.
Negatives:
Took 2 hours from arriving to leaving...very tedious check in.
Van was superficially clean but needed spot deep cleaning in many places, found dust and grime in many places.
Tablet would sporadically stop working for navigation.
Toilet flush malfunctioned.
Mattress was EXTREMELY uncomfortable in bed at back...not great for a 2 weeks trip. springs in my back, super thin, needs a memory foam mattress top or something, our van was actually Britz which is an upgrade, so was surprised for such poor quality mattress especially considering the cost to rent the van.

We received our campervan and proceeded to purchase food to stock our fridge for the journey ahead.
Claudia,
On the third day of our trip we smelt a sour smell from our fridge and realized that the fridge was not working and had to throw out $50 worth of food because of that. When we called THL for advice and then they shared that we needed to seset the battery and go to the service center. We went to the service center and then they say they have no slots for us on that day and then we could go to the Wanaka service center. We went to the Wanaka center and there was no service there. We then had to head back to Queenstown to get it fixed and by then it was already day 12 into our trip and towards the end of our trip. We are terribly upset with your service and how no help was given and wrong advice was also given that gave us lot of inconvenience as we have a baby that we have to cook for and couldn't because our fridge was broken and our entire campervan stank for 12days. This is a horrible experience for us as a family and I would not advice any of my friends to go through this. I wanted you to be aware of this and what we have to go through and how upset we are.

hugely disappointing experience.
Van house battery was flat when picked up the van = no fridge, lights, heating etc had to change the route of our trip to get it fixed in Queenstown (contemplaited taking a photo of battery to check that they had actually changed it but I thought I’d trust this company) Was told the battery had been replaced by unapologetic staff. van still held no charge therefore no appliances worked. Returned van 2 days early to Christchurch and was informed at Christchurch the battery had not been replaced just “checked”it was still the faulty battery. The only positive was the staff we dealt with in Christchurch.

I rented a 4 berth double up motorhome from Christchurch.
I had to wait an hour for it to be cleaned. Even though I had booked and paid for it 10 months before. We quickly found out the waste had not been cleaned out and smelt of hydrogen sulfide (rotten eggs) every time you showered. The toilet waste had not been emptied fully and there were ants in the van. The fridge leaked water all the time. There were many other faults to many to include in this review
This van was very expensive and the condition I got it was not acceptable. The response from the company from the ‘manager’ was to offer me a coupon for a small amount to be used in their shop, which I declined. The queue of people returning vans had similar issues. It is about time the companies dealt with their clients properly over pure greed.
This experience has put me off campervans for life.
I hope this review helps other potential victims

A mess from start to finish.
We arrived having completed all the online check-in information, including our request for child-seats. I even called two days before and they confirmed the child seats were requested on our booking and would be in the camper when we arrived. So when we get shown our camper and there's no seats, I ask where they are, and the girl just turned and walked off saying, and I quote, she "doesn't want to talk to sh!tty people like you". (even this review site won't let me type in the words she actually used. I have no idea why she reacted like this, but maybe she's in the wrong industry. The guy who then took her place (I think his name was Kevin?) was very good.
The camper itself was in fairly poor condition, but was functional and clean. The sat-nav hadn't been updated in seemingly a very long time and so didn't show the local routes around the hire-centre correctly which is a problem because the local main road has changed very significantly. Also, the sat-nav wouldn't hold more than 12% charge which didn't last long...a problem because this is where the wifi comes from...so for us to use the wifi we needed the engine running. The vehicle battery (not the home batter) was goosed and went flat on us twice (and no, this wasn't because we left lights on or anything like that) which necessitated me sourcing help to start the vehicle. The pick-up and drop off process was slow, and the staff generally just look uninterested and slow in everything they do. The step didn't function - it is electronically activated and without it you're left with a very large step-up into the vehicle...too large for my 2 year old daughter to cope with, and at one point she slipped down it and injured her back.
Overall a very disappointing experience, and I'm still staggered at being called a sh!tty person for seemingly no reason. Pretty disgraceful.

Camper smelt damp when we received it and took several days to air out.
The show around the camper was poor, a quick point "the waste water is under there somewhere " really wasn't good enough.
Lots of damage to the vehicle including a large crack in the windscreen that the rep believed had been fixed but you could feel the crack on the outside.
Would not use Mighty again, it's worth paying more for a better camper.

We hired a mighty camper van.
This gave us flexibility which we enjoyed. However the initial hiring of the van was chaotic in spite of having an appointment. The fridge was very noisy and running all the time keeping us awake at night. One of the gas burners did not work. We went to the Queenstown depot to get these problems fixed but nothing was done and they were no better. The duvets and seats were dirty. The van was continually locking itself so we kept the keys on us at all times and slept with the back door slightly open so we were not locked in. It was their budget range of van but we expected none of the above problems. On the plus side the van was very reliable and gave us a perfect holiday.

Watch out for this company!
We were truly disappointed with the service from Mighty/Britz/Maui, as it did not match our expectations from one of the largest and well known rental companies in New Zealand. Our journey began with an engine failure approximately twenty minutes after our departure from Auckland and experiencing problems with the customer service regarding trying to get a replacement vehicle. The engine failure lamp on the dashboard was instead fixed by a service mechanics but came back later. Furthermore, the condition of the vehicle was not in accordance with what to be expected. We understood the vehicle was in used condition, but the standards of the interior were unacceptable. Apart from faulty cleaning like several stains and remainder of an opened wine bottle, one table inside was loose and swinged back and forth while the vehicle was in motion. Two drawers of the kitchen interior were broken and had to be fixed with rope as a result of the flaws of the equipment. The oven did not work at all. We also had to purchase and change a new headlamp for the campervan as we discovered it was not working. By providing us this vehicle, we determined that Mighty/Britz/Maui did not provide us with a roadworthy vehicle which was in conflict with New Zeeland rental law. For this inconvenience, we agreed with them after some days on the road to compensate us with a price reduction in accordance with the flaws of the vehicle. After a long struggle with several mails and phone calls from Sweden to NZ we got 650 NZD back from a 9000 NZD rental contract.

Mighty staff very helpful, friendly and efficient.
Motorhome spotless and well equipped. Rating of 8 rather than 10 given because of disappointment with lack of storage in the organisation of motor home (apart from safe we could find no under squab storage). There was a shaped table (rather than a rectangle) which then transformed into my bed which led to an uncomfortable night sleep and sore back for me (lack of support where the table shape was cut out). Otherwise all was good :)

Abysmal experience.
Still waiting to collect our camper after 3 hours wait. Paid everything up front on line but they tried to slip in an extra fee for the extra driver.
Worst service ever. Now camper is out the back for repairs before we even get to go. Wasting my families holiday in a lounge full of other disgruntled travelers.
Don't do it! !!!
