Gordon Park Loop Track

Gordon Park Loop Track

550 m return | 10 minutes return

Towering kahikatea are the dominant tree in the reserve along with matai and pukatea. One short detour leads to a fine example with planked buttress roots and a straight bole to the crown.

The reserve was gazetted in 1927 in response to a public petition to preserve a remnant of the fast-dwindling forest.

1.5 km north of Dublin Bridge along SH4, turn right into Rangitikei Street, which merges to Eastown Road. Turn left into Number 3 Line after 2 km and continue 2 km to Kaimatira Road.

The start of the track is over a stile by a narrow parking bay 100 metres further on the left.

This constructed metalled track threads a sinuous path through the lowland forest, which once covered the Wanganui flood plains.
