Time: 3-5 hr one way | 10km
The Manawatu Gorge Track passes through a unique landscape of steep greywacke ranges covered in native vegetation.The track provides an opportunity to enjoy native bush, scenic views and wildlife only a short distance from Palmerston North.
From either end the track climbs steadily (and steeply in places) before levelling out for a spell high above the gorge. Five viewpoints along the way give spectacular views of the river, road, railway, reserve and nearby windfarms
After climbing up from the Woodville end, the Upper Gorge Bridge track gives an alternative route back down to State Highway 3. This track takes between 1 hr 30 min to 2 hr. Transport needs to be arranged as this track finishes at a different place to the start. Please note: there is no footpath along the state highway and limited parking space.

Very disappointing walk, don't understand why it's so highly rated.
Nowhere near the gorge and winds through dense forest with no sunshine and in the gloom. Would be ok for exercising if you don't mind the dark gloom. Would be better to have walked along the closed road by the river. The best thing are the superb toilets in the carpark?

Nice to see the recent enormous slip that covered the road.

It was a good one but I expected to see and walk close to the water but because of the track this is not the case.

great place, heard birds, saw rata flowers, great for a walk or run.
There are pegs ever km so you know how far you have gone.
Would be so much better with more loop options and a mountain bike track, especially a mountain bike track. It needs to be over 12km long and have a cafe at one end, a good day ride.

car park needs to be bigger its getting really crowded.
Its the best attraction in the Manawatu, Tararua, palmerston North and its FREE.
Heaps of veiw points now, the one over the big slip which closed the gorge road for a year is awesome.

Well maintained track.
Not too many viewpoints (but beautiful when you get one), 4 or 5 picnic areas available along the track. Mostly walking in the bush.
