Found Earl's Paradise via Rankers.
Glad we could find somewhere as didn't want to gamble with the 2 spots available for freedom camping in Whangapoua, especially because we had a 10 month old.
View was incredible. The portaloo's however were disgusting. I'm not usually picky but I'd rather not see everyone's business nor smell it while eating my dinner. Guessing the poo man was late in coming but even after he'd been, it still wasn't a pleasant experience.
Other than that, we loved how close it was to New Chums and the price was inviting.

Much like others have said, Earl is a gem!!!
His hospitality goes above and beyond. He shared fresh fish with us (which we grilled up for dinner) and invited us into his home the following morning to watch the rugby (the all blacks were playing in the World Cup). As for the camping, what beautiful views!!! Basic facilities (porta potty) with sinks and good water. Also an outdoor free hot shower. Earl, and the view, makes this place a must!

40 dollars for a spot, cold showers, smelly toilets and too many sandflies.
Wouldn't recommend.

Earl is a legend… so friendly and will go out of your way to help you.
This was our first campsite on our trip and it didn’t disappoint - the views were amazing and lots of room to park up our van and watch the sunset. $20 each for a non powered site… little pricier than what we paid around the rest of the island but Earl’s friendliness made up for it!
Portaloo toilets and cold showers.
Must go see New Chums beach - we had to wade through the water to get there but was so so worth it!!

What a gent!
We pulled up late having missed the freedom camping spots ( only two!) at New Chums. Earl greeted us (and his adorable dog!) and was more than happy for us to stay the night. Lots of space, toilets and shower available.
Such a kind guy with a Sweet spot.

Earls place is a ‘must stay’.
Earl is a genuine long term (great grandparents from there) local! He kindly drove and showered me where to start the walk to the spectacular New Chums beach … as well as another gorgeous beach at the opposite end. Earl makes you feel really welcome and his site looks over beautiful Whangapoua, so you can go to sleep listening to the sea :). I’ll be back !!!!

Earl is a very welcoming a kind host.
The campsite is situated overlooking the water with a great view. The facilities are portable toilets and outdoor cold showers. For $20 for one camper, I felt this was far too expensive for what I got. Nice location, but the facilities leave something to be desired.

Earl was an amazing host and greeted us as soon as we arrived.
Had a great chat with this dude and learnt some more about the area. Awesome quaint campsite with all the facilities you actually need. Don't need to be self contained as everything is already here! We'll definitely be back.

Earl is a great host!
Very nice and funny. Even though it says you have to book beforehand, you actually don‘t. Earl will give you a place. We came in the afternoon and he drove his car away, so we could get a place with a beautiful view. It really is amazing, and there were other spots available too, but more and more campers come in the evening.
There are cold showers and Toilets which are ok. Earl does also have a place where you can cook and do the dishes, plus some picnic benches. It isn’t new or anything, but the view and Earl himself male up for it, plus there is still everything you need.
We met a lot of new people.
It is a great place to stay for 10 dollars!

Beautiful, low-key area.
Earl is a great guy, very hospitable and informative. If he offers, take him up on a sunrise walk. Earl’s camp provides the basics for campervan/tent camping. Lots of young travelers with great stories.
