Had a nice stay at Donegal House.

Easy check-in process, we just popped by the bar and paid $20 for a powered site. The bathroom and toilets are clean. Cold shower is free, hot shower is $4 ($2 coins only). Good option to stay if your campervan is not “self-contained” according to Kaikoura’s standard! Great beer too.

We found this spot after looking for quite a while for freedom camping.

We were a bit late (7 PM) and could only find horrible sites. Then we found this gem. It only costs 20$ for 2 people. There's is plenty of spaces (and there were only a dozen campervans when we stayed). The car park is set in nature next to a beautiful big pond with loads of ducks and birds.

There's an Irish pub & restaurant, which unfortunately was closed for restoration work the day we were there. But we would have loved to try it! We found the place had a great vibe to it.

Host was welcoming, toilets were clean. There are showers (free for cold and paid for hot).

We'll definitely come back here if we're in the area again !

We highly recommend this site for a peaceful quiet night.

Set out in the country but not far from the main area of Kaikoura. Plenty of room for parking even big caravans. There is the use of toilets and showers (paid) at Donegal house. Pets are also allowed. At the Irish pub they do excellent meals with a friendly fun environment.

We were pleased we stayed here over other choices in the area - such good value for money ($20 unpowered, $30 powered) and great hosts to boot!

We parked our camper down the end of the massive parking lot and had a stunning view of the snow capped mountains and only calves and horses for neighbours. Well appointed bathrooms, showers are $4 for 4minutes of hot water but in reality they go for much longer than that and they were extremely clean when we were there. The owners were super accomodating organizing breakfast for us to take away and we had a delicious dinner at the pub run on site.

The review given 4 months before this one about free camping is either out of date or false: all sites are $20 plus another $10 for a powered site - yes, there are powered sites now.

This is clear on all signs upon entry to the site.

$20 dollars for unpowered sites & $30 with power.

Pay at the bar on arrival. Plenty of sites when we stayed near the end of Feb. Nice setting in the country side amongst the farms with view of the mountains. Toilets to use & $4 hot showers

Not free anymore!

Came here after reading reviews saying unpowered sites are free, but all sites are $20 now + an extra $10 if you want power. Nice place though, clean toilets and showers ($4), drinking water taps everywhere.

Large (but unimaginatively laid out) car park site, with fresh water at pretty much every pitch and power if you want it.

Nice welcome in the bar/restaurant and the food was great, if you can cope with piped Irish music, which you can't escape if you're eating or drinking, even outside. The camping is far enough away that you can't hear it there, though. We stopped in at Kaikoura, booked a whale-watching trip for the following day, then spent the evening here, just outside the town itself.
