Information

Ruapehu Chairlift Rides

Ride in summer to 2000m up Mt Ruapehu and experience New Zealand largest active volcano up close.

Over the summer months, ride chairlifts over stunning volcanic terrain to the top of the Waterfall Express Chairlift at an altitude of 2020 meters above sea level. Once there you can take in the breathtaking views from New Zealands Highest Cafe of Mt Ruapehu's summit, Tongariro National Park and the Central North Island. Take a short walk and explore the volcanic terrain or walk down to the base area following the market route.

If weather conditions deteriorate during the day we may close lifts earlier than planned. If this happens, and you miss your lift ride down, you will have to make your own way back to the base area on foot. Follow the orange and blue markers starting from the top of the Waterfall Express Chairlift.

Lifts operate from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm daily, conditions permitting. Last ride up is at 3:30 pm.
