Abel Tasman campsite fire pits closed
The firepits at the following campsites are closed due to dry conditions and the high risk of fire:
- Anchorage Campsite
- Bark Bay Campsite
- Waiharakeke Campsite
- Mutton Cove Campsite
- Whariwharangi Campsite
Fires are still permitted at Totaranui main camp in the designated fire pits, but not in the Great Walk camp.

Smoking is only permitted on beaches and bare ground at campsites. Cookers can only be used in provided cooking shelters, picnic tables or on sandy ground.

Wasp control operation for Abel Tasman Coast Track

A wasp control operation using Vespex poison will be carried out on the northern section of the Abel Tasman Coast Track between Onetahuti and Whariwharangi.

The poison will be placed in bait stations located on trees beside the track. Warning signage will be placed at all public access points while the bait is present.

This operation will be carried out between 13 March – 1 April 2025.

Set a fair way back from the beach and the time I stayed here I got well bitten by mosquito's, so bring your repellant if you stay here.
Good facilities though with flush toilet and a fire pit. There's other camping options like Mutton Cove or Anapai not too far away, so if your legs can handle it, I'd consider taking a looksy at those.
