Fabulous & reasonable spot, the hosts were very nice & accommodating to seven of us showing up on the day.
$19pp which is great considering Collingwood was $35 😵 Being right on the beach is fab too, fell asleep to the sound of waves

not a bad choice if you're looking to spend the night in the area, but after reading such good reviews, it was disappointing.
the 5/10 review below says it best. facilities are clean, but old and tired. the male bathroom smelled like piss, the way they're constructed means that your feet are getting splashed from the next cubicle and the mirrors were foggy (not from the steam)...
kitchen was alright - there are a few utensils, but you're better off bringing your own.
dining room is pretty small, but I guess this place is designed for caravans rather than for tent/car campers.
the sites are not cramped, but some of them are just next to the road, where the only privacy you're getting is from the hedge that separates the larger sections. at least there are no floodlights, so you can sleep at night.
$19/person/night felt a bit expensive, I've been to better DOC sites.
even though the hosts were nice, I'd rather stay somewhere further south with more options.
I wouldn't give it more than a 7, I'm leaning towards 6, partly to balance out the great reviews

Stayed here because friends were already staying here for a few weeks.
Great location right on the beach. Basic facilities but they do the job. Nothing to complain about

34$ for two and a camper WITH beachfront site - OK, we're lucky at this "old school" camping area.
But it's nice and the owners really friendly. Cooking facilities available, the showers a little bit out of time, but no additional costs.

What a great campground.
We ordered a single scoop ice-cream and got a massive tower. ''A hot day'' said the owner. Very friendly staff.
Clean tidy , near the beach. Food in shop was cheaper than local 4 square.
Only blemish was the old facilities which are slowly being upgraded. But I am nit-picking.

Very nice spot directly on the waterfront.
Breathtaking view over the sea at daytime and stary sky at night. Only some steps down for a refreshing swim. Plenty of space, free shower and a very friendly and helpfull owner made my stay perfect. The little shop nearby offers some food basics and camping stuff for fair prices. Would like to come back.

We paid $34 for 2 people, 1 night in a non-powered site.
We'd recommend booking ahead with the friendly owners as this place was really busy despite the rest of Golden Bay being pretty quiet. If you can get a spot on the beachfront, this would be a perfect place to camp. However, if, like us, you get a spot in the parking lots set back from the beach, it isn't great and you kind of feel like you could be anywhere. You can't really see the sea through the other campervans and the vibe from the other campers isn't too friendly.
There's a spacious, clean kitchen to use and it wasn't too busy around dinner time even though the campsite seems to be full. However, the bathrooms are old and tired and not all that pleasant. Still, untimed hot showers are included in the price
Overall, a little disappointing for us, but if you get a spot by the sea, it would probably make up for all the shortcomings.

Very cool spot to camp.
Had a spot right on the beach front. Tide comes in really close and then goes right out. Lots of beach for the kids to swim and play. Playground is a bit run down. Free showers which is awesome. Helpful staff. Small cabins. Really great and will visit again
