Stayed for close to a month in a camper van.
The facilities were cleaned everyday to a high level. The grounds were kept clean even after a massive storm. Steve and Jo were friendly, and helpful.
I see some of the old reviews are not that great however for my self this site was great especially with a young child as the community pool was behind the grounds, there is a wonderful river walk close by and the Victoria Esplanade with a large playground within a short walk. I will definitely recommend to my family.

It's the only holiday park in Palmy but the review score wasn't great so we were curious to see what was so wrong with it..
turns out it's a nice campground with beautiful tall trees, dedicated staff and very decent facilities. The bad reviews I'm seeing are either a long time ago or unfair reviews from people who blame everything on other people.
Jo and Steve have been great to us. We stayed for a few weeks and even went through a cyclone here. They took proactive safety measures to protect campers, came around personally to make sure we had what we needed and the cleanup afterwards was very quick.
The location could not be better. The esplanade is right next door with playgrounds, narure walks, a rose garden, aviary, kiddie pool.. then there is the lido pool complex next door on the other side.. plus you've got the river right at the back and all the walking you can shake a stick at along the riverside.
Finally, untimed showers - my favourite. We have stayed at well over forty campgrounds up and down NZ and those are not as common as you would think
Would definitely stay here again.

So we really enjoyed our stay.
Booking and check-in were fine. Staff were friendly and helpful. The site was one of the best we had stayed on. Great for a long vehicle. Individual water taps for each site as well as a drain for waste water. Facilities were good, well maintained. The campsite was quiet the weekend we stayed although there is some daytime noise from the swimming pool complex over the back fence but no issue. Lots of walks in the area and a coffee cart appears near the walking bridge around 8.30am. Exceeded our expectations based on some of the reviews we read.

Appalling.
I might add I never complain or write bad reviews, so this is a first for me. We went here a year ago and was impressed with how thorough the manager was about everyone abiding by camp rules. So we visited for a long weekend, my wife and I, our daughter and two little grandchildren. The experience was so miserable we packed up and left after the first night. My daughter wanted to leave within half an hour of arriving. Firstly the ladies on the office couldn’t find our booking, until I showed a copy of her email she sent confirming it. We were given two sites directly opposite a large group of around 20 adults who had set up two marquees where they sat, drank and swore continuously all afternoon and evening with the last ones heading off to bed about 1.30am. By 9am they were back at the marquee. In fact, all down this end of the campground there were similar groups set up under smaller marquees. When I expressed my dissatisfaction I was told that I should have known this particular weekend was going to be like this as the holiday park was full for a Speedway event in town. I.e. it was our fault for booking this particular weekend. Yet there were sites available in quiet family friendly areas, but as we had spent the previous hour packing up, we weren’t in the mood of risking another night. We packed up and left, no apology was offered by the staff, and a request for a refund for the unused night was outright turned down. I won’t be going here again.

I would stay here again.
We tried to plan out our trip and locations and this one ended up being a last minute decision to get out of the mountains before some bad weather came in. The owners were nice and friendly and found a place for us. I suppose some of the areas could be muddy in wet season but most of these were marked off. The site is somewhat dark at night but beautiful big trees during the day. Bathroom was a little cold (windows were open) but the shower was excellent.

People running the place are very indifferent to possible health issues, put me in a cabin with bee attracting plants outside the cabin, when told I am allergic to stings and would like to be moved, was
told we have none spare and they wanted the bees for the ant problem. Stayed 4 nights and the 6 or 7 cabins behind were empty all the time. Will not stay again and won't recommend it to anyone.

Stayed here one night for an event in town : Got a cabin with double bed and bunk for 3 people : Entered the cabin at night no lightbulb in first room ( Kitchen) : Went to make cup of tea : Teaspoons
sticky :
Obviously not washed with dishwash :
In morning went to have shower no hot water :
Checked hot water cylinder : TURNED OFF
Office staff took note but didnt offer much of an apology and no offer of discount :
Management / Owners need to start to put checks in place / upgrading the cabins to this century would help :

This caravan park was nice.
The amenities block was average, but they were doing renovations at the time (Sept 2016). Reasonably priced powered sites. Lots of ducks that loved a feed. Not far out of town.

Stayed here both on the way to and returning from Gisborne.
Dated facilities but very clean. Very pleasant welcome and helpful staff. Meticulously kept grounds and concrete pad for the caravan. Council swimming pool over the back fence.
