A lot of animals (national and international ones).
You can see lions. Not that big but very interesting, you can see how they feed them.

Great variations of animals, spanning all continents.
Sometimes hard to spot certain animals, but only due to the fact they they have big areas to live in.

Unfortunately, not even good for the kids.
A lot of the animals advertised were not there or available for viewing, lots of builders/construction and no warning of this.

I love going to the zoo, i've been to loads and Auckland didn't disappoint.
The kiwi enclosure was a highlight, I got a great look at these wonderful yet reclusive little fellas.

We had a nice day here and for $54 for a family of 4, the entrance price was reasonable.
It's a nicely laid out zoo and the safari areas are great - coming from Singapore where we have one of the world's best zoos, this is a big compliment!
We mainly went there because our children wanted to see the kiwis and we weren't disappointed - the kiwi house is in darkness with dim lighting so you can see the kiwi foraging for food and there was also a 'nest-cam' so we could see the other bird sitting on their egg (kiwi chicks could feature for visitors in the not too distant future!).
The cost of the food was very OTT though - a few drinks and a couple of snacks and I was $35 lighter. The other thing was that you pay your entry fee and then they want to charge you $2 for a map - I think a free map should be given to every group who pay to enter (it's not asking too much I don't think). If you don't buy the map, I counted only 2 map boards in the zoo, so it's almost as if they're forcing you to buy one to find your way around. Apart from the extra expense, it was a good day out for us.

I love Auckland Zoo.
I love the layout of the safari lands where there are numerous animals living together. They seem to have so much space.
I loved the lions and the Tigers, and the Seal enclosure is awesome. The elephants are gorgeous, and my cousin absolutely loved feeding the Giraffes - even though she got a very big fright at how close and large the Giraffe was.. The interactive feedings and shows make for an awesome experience.
A great family day out.

Compared to zoos in the UK we were very impressed - the admission was very reasonable, the animals are clearly all well cared for and we saw a wide variety of animals.
Of particular interest were the tigers - they were active and playful which made them compulsive to watch.
As with most zoos there were a few no-shows, but for us the tigers, red panda and noisy siamangs more than made up for the lack of a frog exhibit or aquarium.

Great zoo.
Saw red panda and kangaroos. Problem was that it was raining so lions and tigers were sheltering :(

We love AKL Zoo and spend many hours with our kids watching “our” friends.
However would love a better equipped playground and the kids zone could have more projects tailored to young kids. Would like to see more published animal feeding times i.e. we stumbled across the hippos when they were given a cabbage – what a delight – however never seen it again also the little man would love to have this experience again. The last minute announcements over the intercom are nearly impossible to understand. Overall the zoo is great however could be bigger.
