I would give 9/10 with previous experience riding with the nakedbus and manabus services.
Comparing intercity with nakedbus services however is like comparing North Korea to South Korea, you can guess who's north in this situation. Reason giving a 7 is that i was surprised today with how late manabus was (45-50 mins late). I shouldn't complain but time is crucial when there's plans in place. But I appreciate the bus services and will continue to be a customer of the nakedbus/manabus services.

I booked a return trip from Auckland to waitomo and rotorua and arrived with my printed confirmation, money paid, this morning at 7.15am.
I waited until about 7.40am and then tried to look up their contact details. I saw a mail in my junk folder from them saying the trip was full and I'd been moved to a trip 2 days later. Given that I was overseas I hadn't had my data roaming on and also given the fact the booking had been confirmed, money debited and I had a reference number I didn't think it necessary to check in case they had overbooked. It's not like you book a flight and then check the day before to ensure someone hasn't randomly decided to cancel it!
I contacted them and they made something up about trying to contact me 'on the number I had given' i.e. implying it was my fault. The number was of course correct and I had had no missed calls.
Do not use this company, very unreliable and certainly not trustworthy.

We paid for our bus tickets weeks in advance and received a confirmation email to let us know our booking numbers and such.
It also said specifically where the bus would pick us up and what time to be at that spot to wait. We got there twenty minutes early and waited for almost two hours to find out that, after ringing the customer service line, the bus had gone to a different bus stop and was already well on it's way to the destination. This is also an unlikely scenario because the stop the bus apparently went to was just down the road from where we were waiting and we never saw it, so it sounds like they're lying about that. Customer service (when they eventually picked up as we'd been trying to ring for a while) agreed to give a refund but it seems petty in light of the ages we had to spend waiting as well as the full day of fun ruined because we couldn't even get to where we were going. Never using NakedBus or ManaBus again.

Very disappointed.
I took a bus from hahei to Hamilton nz. once I reached Hamilton I realised that I left my sun glasses on the bus. I phoned up the head office to make them aware and sent them photographs of where they were as I couldn't get hold of the bus driver and I hoping they would. I phoned them again that day and they said that my sun glasses have gone missing, and that they phoned the driver countless amount of times to make him aware. After getting hold of the driver myself, he sadly informed me that he had no missed phoned calls from "the naked bus company" head office.
A company that prides themselves on great customer service!. The busses run late, there's no order or seating plan , and when a customer has in issue they a faced with a dismissive head office team.

We will never ever travel by this service ever again!
Had a very bad experience lately with Naked / Mana bus. I had booked return tickets from Auckland to Rotorua through Manakau. All went well when we took the bus from Rotorua to AKL. While returning I realized quiet late that the ticket stated that I had to board from AKL and not Manakau [ not sure how as i had booked my return and arrival to Manakau. Anyway we thought it was the only bus going to Rotorua so we could get in . The driver refused to take us as we were supposed to board from Auckland city even though we had the ticket for the right day / time. It was terrible as we had no one in AKL to help us we went back top the airport and had to return in Luxury shuttle back home around mid night.
Next day I called up the contact number in AKL and spoke to a lady. She told me that it was at the discretion of the driver and said that it was my fault that I did not read the ticket! Ruthless and unkind people..well there is something called karma people...it will catch up!

Booked my brother and his wife a 6.15AM Whangarei to Auckland bus on Fri 8 April (arriving 9 AM) to connect their flight to Nelson at Auckland airport on 11.25AM.
At the time of booking InterCity and Air NZ also had special fares for the same service, but I was foolish enough to choose NakedBus. We also purchased a return SkyBus Auckland trip costing us $28 for travel to Airport on the 8 April.
Well, NakedBus you really upset me. You emailed me to cancel the bus service on the 8 April. We own a very busy business in Whangarei and I do not have time to drive down to Auckland to pick up/drop off anyone. The earliest Intercity Bus arrive in Auckland at 12 PM which means my brother and his wife would not make it in time for their flight to Nelson. This leaves me no choice but to purchase 2 x Air NZ tickets Whangarei to Auckland, costing me $226 extra, and the $28 I paid to SkyBus would be a waste because we don't get to use it.
You do state in your email that you wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused. However I am writing to you to let you know that I do not accept your apology. Not after you caused me extra expenses of $226...that is a lot of money, due to your unprofessional operation. If there is a problem with weather, flood, earthquake etc then I can understand if you cancel a service. But you just cancel your service for no reason. You do not have any consideration for the consequences of your action, you do not care how much extra expenses your customers would incur. I will never purchase any NakedBus/ManaBus ticket again and will not recommend your company to anyone.

I will never attempt to travel with these fools again.
Waited in the cold at the Auckland bus stop with a crowd of other passengers for four hours and then gave up. No idea how much longer the other poor people had to wait, I got rescued by a friend.
No attempt was made to help us, or even explain what was happening. Only the poor drivers of each arriving bus left to try and find out what was going on.
They refunded me but the money is inconsequential. I wasted a whole night not being where I was wanting to be, and my wife had to drive up to get me.
Don't trust these idiots, if they mess up they don't even care.

I thought I was perfectly on time since my family lived local to where I was catching the stop.
When I got there, I was informed that the bus had left without me. I called up and they were ridiculously unhelpful and refused to stop the bus so I could drive and get on. I wasted $25/30 and had to pay $25 to hop on the next Intercity instead. Wish I'd chosen them first.

I have always been satisfied with them.
However i write this to share my experience about the sleeper bus as there is little to no info on the naked bus website about it. I took the sleeper bus for the first time from Wellington to Auckland. The beds were single sized, with a curtain down the middle, so I looked for a top bunk as only the bottom bunks were shared, but there were none left. I took one of the free bottom bunks. There was less than half a meter between the bottom and top bunks. It had a clean blanket and pillow. The cushioning was thin but bearable to lay on. The bus was full so i had share. there was very little space for the two of us and we couldn't lay flat . So i was squished up against the window. There was almost no moving space and my feet were flat against a wall. I'm of average height and a very skinny guy, I cant imagine what it'l be like for larger people. The guy next to me was slightly larger so he took up more space. When he fell asleep he would go flat and i was squished right up against the wall and window. This happened often throughout the trip. Also about the curtain, it is useless. I was really not enjoying myself as i had no space and i was sweating from frustration and discomfort. This was prolonged because the bus had to do unscheduled toilet stops because the toilet wasn't working on board. This also made the bus get to Auckland over an hour late.
The only sleep i got was after the guy next to me got off in Hamilton. I also have to add that there is no difference in pricing for if you sleep on a top bunk by yourself or on a bottom bunk squished up next to someone else.
It wasn't worth the extra costs. Unless u get a top bunk by getting on first or sharing a bed with your boyfriend or girlfriend etc. But this is just my opinion about the sleeper bus from my own experience.
It would be nice for naked bus to offer more info on their sleeper bus, as i know most people would not enjoy what i went through.

I only used their service two times, but boy I'm glad I did.
During my trip to queenstown in March 2015, the bus left me with three other people (two japanese and a french lady). We thought the bus was late, but apparently the bus has left us and we were uninformed that the bus didn't use nakedbus logo.
That experience is still bearable until I realized I cannot call them because they are using premium number that cost 2 dollar per minute. According to the nakedbus website, they want to save money by encouraging all the customers to contact them via website. I think it's just an excuse so that customer cannot complain.
I was very lucky that the french lady was somehow able to call nakedbus by her phone, and I was able to arrange my transfer on another day. However the email I sent to them was answered few days later. The facebook page didn't help much either. It was very frustrating because that day was my birthday, I had to phone all my hostels and moved the schedule.
I registered to this website only to post this review and warn everyone before using nakedbus. So far I haven't had bad experience other than that (the bus still come on time). But since they are taking the customers' right to call them directly, and imposing hefty fee for that, I will give it 1. It's a very bad business practice.
For comparison, Intercity has a live webchat with customer service. On that day I chat with the customer service to move my schedule, she gave me a very clear instruction and informed me that I had to pay an extra fee (which is still understable). I deleted my schedule from their system and got a credit transfer.
However I forgot to make the booking and later on, I received a voicemail. The customer service actually left a message that my credit will expire if didn't use it before 8.00 PM.
I'm not sure how cheap is nakedbus compared to intercity, but I will recommend anyone to compare it with other bus companies before making a trip with nakedbus.

We booked the sleeper bus for a return journey from Wellington to Auckland and back.
Three weeks before the journey we got an email saying that the sleeper would not be ready for the Wellington to Auckland trip and so we decided that we would fly as we had no interest in traveling such a long journey on a seated bus. The customer service person assured me that the Auckland to Wellington sleeper service would definitely be running as scheduled on Saturday night. At 1pm on Saturday we received an email saying that the sleeper for tonight will not be available and will be replaced by a normal seated bus. They said as compensation they would give us two vouchers for naked bus. I replied to their email and said this is not adequate compensation as some of our travel companions get motion sickness on seated busses. They did not reply to my email and they still have not replied. As we were cutting it too close we decided to just take it on the chin and take the seated bus. Upon arrival we were told that the toilet onboard doesn't work and there will be toilet stops and the onboard toilet was only for emergencies and number ones as it won't flush. After switching drivers in Turangi our driver was extremely tired and was told on occasions that he we driving on the wrong side of the road as he fell asleep. When we reached Palmerston north we decided we were not going to risk it any longer, especially as one of the front seat belts was not working. We told the driver we were getting off and that he should rest. We also asked if the company would send him out another driver if he was unable to drive and he said "sometimes". We got off at 5.30am and stayed in Palmerston north until we could catch an intercity bus back to Wellington at 11.30.
Also note that if you need to speak with a customer services representative you will have to fork out $1.99 per minute.
I hope this gives you an idea of naked bus' service.
I think it is poorly managed and can be unsafe to travel on.

DO NOT TRAVEL WITH NAKED BUS.
While in transit, the luggage compartment doors opened accidentally, throwing multiple bags (including ours) from the bus at very high speeds. The total damage to our gear was in excess of several hundreds of dollars, and would have ruined our vacation had we not already finished our last track.
We wrote Naked Bus to seek compensation for an accident that was clearly brought about by neglect on the part of the company. They claim that they are not responsible for the damages. This company clearly does not care about their customers, cuts corners with safety and standards, and possesses zero accountability for their actions. Thankfully there were only bags involved in this accident as opposed to passengers. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I won't be using the Naked Bus EVER again, my first, last and only experience has left me cold and stranded after sitting at an open bus shelter for over 3 hours, With Delays due to mechanical problems
If I could Give Them a Zero I Would
, only to ring and find out the bus had already past my stop, and I apparently was NOT there according to the Bus Driver, well I was there from 1 pm till after 4 pm waiting, I had received a text telling me of the delays and the final one I received at 2.30 pm stated to be there at 3.30 pm for Pick up, only when I rang was I told the bus went through at 3 pm. He may have gone through but he sure as heck didn't stop, because apart from running to the toilet (2 minutes max) at 2.30 (when I received the update) I NEVER left the bus stop and according to the girl I spoke to the bus didn't leave Tauranga until 2.20 so how in the world did he get to Katikati by 3 unless he was speeding and not stopping to pick up any one on the way. NAKED BUS YOU SUCK!
