I can highly recommend the Deluxe Sleepervan.
We had great 3 weeks and no problems with our car. Everything was clean and well equiped. The handover in Auckland was friendly and informative, giving the car back in Christchurch was perfect as well. The Transport from and to the airport was really helpful. We have nothing to complain about.

Very good vehicle for 2, complete with bed, full kitchen and almost new utensils.
The vehicle (Toyota) was trustworthy without any needs for maintenance topup. I think this setup is more flexible and economical to camper vans. Absolutely superb experience.

The service that we got when picking up the van was good, nice bloke.
The van itself is alright. It does the job but leaks in wet weather. It has more than 459,000km on it, that is probably why.

I rented a sleeper van from the Pod in October.
It was a fun experience and a cool road trip. In my case though, because it was only for 5 days, it came up to be more expensive than taking a room in hotels. So, even if the rental price for the van was not too high, it wasn't really economic so let's say I did it for the experience.
The van itself was OK: it was very basic of course and this was expected for the price I paid. If you're on a budget and not too fussy, it's a good option. It was clean and in good running condition, not too hard on gas. Small size, so easy to drive on New Zealand winding roads and good flexible pick-up and drop off options. The only problem I had was with the little portable heater that wouldn't work and that was unfortunate since I hit a lot of bad weather when I was there. I would also suggest that the rental company would have a form so you can report any kind of damages you find before you leave with the vehicle. Since you can pick the van in almost any location, you don't really have options to make sure that the damages caused by previous users are not imputed to you.

Hi Annick, great to hear you enjoyed our trip in NZ and the van. As per the rental agreement, if something small in the van stops working like the fan heater you are welcome to replace the item and we will reimbursed you upon return. We hope to see you back again!

We are very satisfied with our sleepervan.
It is perfectly divided and has plenty of storage room. Their service is awesome, just get in touch with them. Our car is unfortunately quite old but other than that is nothing to complain about.

We had the backpacker sleepervan booked for 7 weeks.
Communication was good with the company! And although the van was tiny, it was so efficient set up on the inside, we thought it was perfect for what you pay for it! It was an oldy, so it squeeked and squeeled, but it never let us down.

Collected the car in christchurch and saw it was scratched and banged up.
No problem for us, but after driving 40 km, we noticed that there was mold in the car. On the roof, in a little compartment next to the handbrake. Called the office and we could go back to solve the problem.
A lovely lady cleaned the car and gave us new curtains and we got 1 day hire back. After the first night we noticed that there were still places with mold and the smell of the cupboard with the sink was like an old, wet basement.
The 2 burner stove was rusted and couldn't get used, it was stuck. They gave us 2 little camperstove's, wich is not a problem, but you don't have the place to put them in your car. So you have to look for a bench. We payed 25$ for 3 gas canisters(wich i tought would be for the integrated stove, and would probably cost around that mark) but got 3 canisters for the camping stove(wich cost 5$ in the warehouse for 4 canisters). But that is not the bad part: one of the canisters was not full and rusted. Also the door handle looked dodgy: It appeared that the car got broken into, and that this could happen easely again with a screwdriver.
The first night we sended an email for this and the door handle, but never got a reply.
Also really really cosy for 2 people(a double bed of 1m wide ...), but that's not their fault. For 1 person it would be a great car and a cool design, if they would renew the whole inside.
Postive note: the car only used around 8-10l /100k and drove pretty ok for an older car. They only needed to adjust the brakes, because there was a really big margin in pushing the brake and braking. Also a strange thing: when driving you plugin the coolerbox, but how do you recharge your gps then when there is only 1 12v plug and no usb...

we rented for 22 days and had a van from 1997 with more than 250 000 km.
by the end of the third week we really did not feel save anymore - cracking and squeeking and bad brakes and b/c we were in Auckland we called up and asked if we could exchange the van for the last two days. the girl on the phone told us that she had no van for us to exchange and that it was our responsibility to find a mechanic that would check our car saturday morning (most were closed). so we spent time and money, found a mechanic to look at the van and when he talked to the rental people it was suddenly possible to get another van in exchange...
