This delightful bay is an excellent place for exploring rock pools. Because of its seclusion, it is quiet and tranquil.
The turnoff to Whiritoa from S.H.25 is the Whiritoa Beach Road, 13km south of Whangamata and 18km north of Waihi. There are numerous access ways to the beach. The walk starts at the northern end of the beach on the far side of the stream.
The path is even and well-formed, but sometimes narrow. It rises up and over the bush-covered headland and then skirts farmland as it drops down into the bay.
