8 Basic Camping
The Puriri Bay Camping Ground is the place to set up for the summer! It over looks the Whangaruru Harbour which is super sheltered with lots of great boating, swimming and walking missions to take part in. During the winter months (July to October) there is no vehicle access due to the area being so wet. There are camp hosts on site from Labour Weekend through until Easter.

Beautiful spot near the end of the peninsula, we stayed here in perfect weather on the grass sites at the back which were really quiet end of Jan mid week.
Awesome beach, nice short walks nearby, really friendly and helpfu staff. Good longdrop toilets and cold showers. Drinking water.
No where particularly close to buy food.

Idyllic location and very peaceful. Great for swimming and a good 2hr walk to do from the site. Mainly very friendly locals
Incredible little campsite, one of my all time favorites. Beautiful sheltered bay. Camp hosts were incredibly knowledgable about the local area and very helpful. Amenities were super clean at all times. We loved the composting and the ingenious waste reducing ice blocks (5x for $1). We can't wait to go back.
A very beautiful spot on the beach. Unfortunately we had paid our money at the self registration station ($10pp pn) before we realised that all the grassy camping areas were closed as it was too wet (fair enough) and we had to camp in the carpark next to the rubbish bins. A sign at the self registration station advising this would have been nice!
Beautiful camp right on a harbour beach. Isolated and peaceful but can get very wet after heavy rain. We had it to ourselves in mid April.
Wonderful and scenic place.
