Great place on the Otago Peninsula.
The only castle in New Zealand. Beautiful inside and a lot of history. They tell you everything and you can spend so much time there.
In the Larnach Castle - the only castle in New Zealand. I felt almost the same way like when I was visiting some castles back home. This place and the owners have very interesting history.
Very impressive place. A great legacy.
Impressive castle and gardens, beautifully restored by the Barker family. Very nice, the staff treat you like a lord.

Nice garden around the castle - $12 per person is quite pricey.
Quite expensive but well worth it - the house / gardens and ball room are beautiful. Can easily spend a few hours here. History of the Larnach family is fascinating. You are welcome to take photos in the 'castle' but not use your flash - why would that be? None of our photos came out as it was too dark inside which was a shame.
Beautiful gardens and the house worth a visit for $56 spent at least 3 hours on site.
Great gardens and house, well worth visiting.
The only castle in New Zealand is in Dunedin (Otago Peninsula). Have a coffee at the ballroom. The best coffee I had in New Zealand. To see just the castles garden cost me $12.50, if you want to see inside as well, it will cost more.

We had to pay $12 each just to view the gardens, because the castle was closed.
Just great - the history story is great.

History of owners families fascinating. Would have liked to hear more about the present owners.
Of course it's not a castle. Its a grand manor house with mock battlements. The inside of the house is very ornate with incredible carved detail in the woodwork. There is more to Larnach Castle than the house. There is the ballroom which houses a cafe like no other cafe. There are the gardens and the incredible views from various places around the gardens. What a site to build a house on.

For Germans it is not really something special.
Lovly old style castle, very good garden and it was very interesting. You couldn't go to some bits of the castle though.
Beautiful but expensive
We spent an informative 4 hours here - but we read every historical note available and dwelt a long time in house and garden. Well restored and excellently presented.
Greatly over promoted as a tourist attraction
Fascinating castle, beautiful gardens. Well worth a visit.
Absolutely brilliant place, we really enjoyed the gardens - the planting was inspired, particularly the 'south seas section'. We spent 2 hours there - bliss!! Well worth the entrance fee.
No family discount - not good value for money. Not much of a castle, more of a monarch home. Castle is in need of lots of TLC - poor condition.
Castle isn't as old as I thought. I loved the gardens.
It's nice that you're able to see almost every room in the castle. beautiful interior and garden and marvellous views.
