Great quiet spot off the beaten path. Owner was very nice and accommodating. Bathrooms & showers were nice and clean. The rock beach was just a minute or two walk and a perfect spot for a swim or sunset wine walk. Also close to the trail up the mountain, but was closed when we were there due to fire risk. Overall awesome spot!
We spent our last night on the South Island there on our way to Picton from Abel Tasman. Staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. Camp was quiet at the time of our visit (end Feb). We enjoyed our stay here very much and would definitely stay again!!!
Beautiful campsite with great common area and kitchen. 2 min walk to the beach and a tramp up the hill behind the campsite. Owner was very nice and the honey we bought from the stand out from was delicious. No cell service but free 400mb wifi. Clean showers and toilets.
Charming find on a remote road. Very close to the pebble beach on the Pepin Island causeway.
Divided into a few sections so you don’t feel crowded in. Each site is on a slightly different level so you feel private. Ablutions are really good and clean. Did not use laundry but saw machines.
WiFi is free and each voucher gives 300MB but not always reliable connection. Small kitchen area with not much area should many campers be in at same time. Has barbecue that can be used.
Very peaceful. Zero noise after dark.

Very nice staff, great atmosphere, a lot of space for non powered vehicles, nice walking track and beach 👌🏽
Super well run family campsite. Magic setting at beauty Cable Bay. Safe swimming. Stoney beach so bring water shoes for comfort. Good for real break - No mobile phone coverage in the area. Site has wifi. Owners Jo and Nigel could not have been more helpful and friendly
Lovely owners and really nice side. Its off the beaten track but worth going there. Facilities are clean.
Clean as facilities, friendly as staff. Awesome spot, would recommend cable bay a go to place! Good walk up the hill for an awesome view.
Wonderful fully-equipped kitchen. Quiet site that is close to the beach (down the hill), or up to the view point. Toilet is clean and has hot shower without time limit.
Beautiful setting, small and close to stony beach. Very good clean facilities. Owners friendly and helpful
Everything only just perfect
How peaceful it is there! After travelling and being busy for 2weeks this was so quiet . Beach is really special with its boulder rocks.

Lovely quiet little spot. A little off the beaten track. Close to a good swimming beach even if the water was a bit cold.
Facilities clean and hosts welcoming.
Wonderful, very peaceful quiet historic site. Amazing views and walks close by. Worth going out of your way to find. Clean, welk equipped facilities & good wifi
Beautiful, peaceful site, tucked away a couple of miles off the main road from Nelson.
Good clean facilities.
Kitchen facilities are well equipped.
Good WiFi signal.
Historically significant, with interesting beach behind which is a low tide area - good for bird life. Very quite location.

Best place of New Zealand till now. Clean, relaxed, beautiful surroundings but above all very friendly, helpfull, flexible owners.
Small, but beautifully located and well equipped. The causeway and beach is just outside the lower gate from the site; and the beach is a great place for a picnic on a summer evening.
Amazing place to stay if you are after some peace and quiet, completely understand why the reviews are so good. The owners were lovely, fairly priced, decent kitchen and showers. It was pretty quiet when we visited, but worth going slightly out of your way to stay there. There is a beautiful walk you can do (quite steep) from right next to the campsite, and you can see a great sunset across the bay. We’d highly recommend both the campsite and the walk!
Stayed here early September, had the whole place to ourselves. We loved it and would recommend it to anyone.
Beautiful spot and pure nature. Nice and friendly. Clean. Mini playground. Right next to the sea (Cable Bay). Attention: when it rains the road can be flooded - you might get stuck, no other way out of the Valley!
A lovely small campsite - very quiet midweek in March. Spacious grass sites with our very own Weka!! Great location and good facilities. Friendly owners.
Lovely location. 10-15 spots, busy but not full when we were there. Friendly owners. Very clean kitchen & bathrooms. Some issues with the free wifi (150 MB) that kept dropping out but otherwise a very pleasant stay. We recommend!
It was awesome little place. Friendly staff, good amenities, and fantastic location.
We had a good spot in one of the powered sites close to the tramp for the kids. Lots of families there and friendly tourists.
Would recommend to all
An exceptionally beautiful campsite with very friendly and helpful people. Walk 200m and you are at a beautiful beach. From the beach on, there is a really nice but tough way up the hill (1km) where you have a splendid view over the coast and the hills. The sanitary installations (toilet, shower and kitchen) are good. Price is $19 per person (powered site for motorhome) incl. free wifi.
Wonderful small camping ground beside beautiful Cable Bay. Ablution block and kitchen spotlessly clean even to the extent of fresh flowers in the ablution block and hand towels supplied there as well as the kitchen. Free WiFi worked well in our plot half way down the ground (necessary as there is no cell reception). Lovely cafe a hop, step and jump up the road but be aware it closes at 4pm so get your glass of wine before then. Wally and Wendy Weka keep all amused. A very special place well worth the detour to/from Nelson.
Access savings worth hundreds of $$ on Top Ranked NZ Accommodation and Activities for just $1 per day.
Down the end of a windy road before Nelson. Nice scenic place. Small area but nicely equipped. Good hot showers and kitchen. Free WiFi up to 200mb. $38 for 2 people on a non-powered site.
Beautiful location with friendly people. Hot, limitless showers and wifi - both for free. Grey water dump only. There's a lovely stoney beach 100 meters away and Nelson is a 20 minute drive away. It's really quiet and peaceful and would suit a family as much as a lone traveller. Thanks.
This is an absolutely nice, clean and cute little camping site. The hosts are lovely and super helpful. The surrounding is stunning. There is also a little cafe close by with yummy food. One of the best sites we have been to during our trip (2 month) in New Zealand!
This is one of my favourite campsites in New Zealand. Quiet park so the kids can run around and have fun without worrying if they are going to be hurt by traffic. Great walks close by and a lovely beach area. I have been a couple of times and will be back again as I love the area so much. Good camp facilities with free wifi and coin operated washing machines. Clean amenities and a lovely coffee shop next door. Peaceful and a good place to unwind. Been in May and September. Highly recommend.
Beautiful campground, not very big but right in the bay, the owner very friendly and helpful, the kitchen offers all what you need and is comfy! Showers/toilet very clean.

A really good place. Great view at the mountain just around the campsite. Many people but excellent staff. Near a beach.
Lovely spot, but not a really modern well equipped camp site. High costs for value. They charge $38 plus $5 extra for an 8 month old baby. Even if they did not offer any baby or family bathroom. First time at all we needed to pay extra for a baby.
Lovely campground and very friendly host. Jo welcomed us with a warm smile which immediately convinced us to stay for the night. The place is in a great location and there is a nice walk with a gorgeous view on the bay. The facilities are very clean and the kitchen well equipped. Hot showers on site and the opportunity for laundry is provided. Cabins are limited (only 2), so better book in advance. Overall great stay. Absolutely recommended.
A lot of reviews note the narrow, winding road that leads you to Cable Bay, so I was expecting the worst, but I didn't find it as narrow as others we experienced, and it wasn't that far off the main highway to Nelson. Well worth the drive in my opinion. And the facilities are very clean and well-maintained.
The camp host Hamish was super nice, and held us a great spot since we'd booked well in advance. The view of the wetlands and surrounding hills was great, and the beach isn't even a 5 minute walk.
Be sure to take the hillside track that starts at the south end of the beach. Beautiful views.
I highly recommend Cable Bay.
Excellent campsite in a very pretty spot! The hosts were very friendly and offered good advise about the local area. Facilities were immaculate everything you could ask for. It's a fairly small campground and feels like a real independent. We stayed here instead of Nelson centre, very glad we did, just a shame we didn't have time to stay another night! Free wifi is icing on the cake.... It worked well too!
Fabulous location!! You WILL need to book (we didn't) :-( to save yourself the 8km drive down the windy access road, but worth it just for visiting Cable Bay.
Nice spot, good kitchen (fully equipped) but very expensive.
Romina De Hill
Wonderful facilities with a very well equipped kitchen. Very kid friendly with a little play area and toys. Beautiful beach next to it. Really friendly staff. It is a paid campground though.
Very nice service and ambience.

A really nice little spot with very friendly hosts, peaceful and quiet in beautiful surroundings. If you like the small campgrounds it is a very nice place to go. Book in advance.
Beautiful location, welcoming management, sites grassy and facilities ok. Unfortunately quite noisy from the quarry work site across and corresponding truck traffic right in front of the sites.
Small campground with very friendly owners - nice quiet atmosphere. About 200 metres from the beach, which is mostly stony, but good swimming at low tide, when the flatter sandy part of the beach is exposed.
Tony was a great host. The camp ground was clean and tidy and was close to the beach. The kitchen was ample with lots of utensils and our kids loved the big trampoline provided.
The only downside is there is no signal in this area but sometimes, that's what makes this place great...to get away for all the devices that can prevent you from having a great holiday.
Beautiful location just off the bay. Exceptionally clean facilities and friendly campground host. Well worth the drive down the winding narrow road.
We enjoyed our stay here. Very friendly caretaker and nice waking up looking over water. You won't find a friendlier place.
Beautiful camp, great facilities and hot showers. The caretaker tony is great. This is a beautiful spot
This little Gem of a site is 9km N of SH6 and 23Km E of Nelson. The site is small about 18 slots in total, and beautifully laid out. The facilities are immaculate and all 'work'. The views outstanding and its adjacent to a pebble beach. The drive from the main road from where it is signed is magnificent. Barbara the delightful lady who runs the site may just extend it by a few extra slots. This place is for the discerning visitor, it is peaceful and beautiful. The walks over the back drop of are so fabulous, we visited in 2009 and just had to go back this February 2013. Not ideal for very small children as the beach shelves and has large pebbles. The walks over the hills I would not recommend for small children. In busy periods its probably best to book, but if you discover this one, like us you will be back
Very nice host, cosy and clean facilities with a lot of charm, perfect location.
Very welcome feeling, great location. Good and clean bathroom facilities. Small campground near a walking track.
Very nice quiet campground with great facilities and beautiful tramping possibilities near the campsite.
A really quiet place and really nice owners. A good alternative to Nelson. The cheapest we paid in the South Island for a powered site.
Beautiful. Clean, friendly and helpful.

A nice little campground on a beautiful location. The people are very friendly!!
What a friendly welcome. Not absolutely beach front but we parked van on the causeway by the sea for meals and enjoyed the burbling brook and the birds - not to mention the better than usual showers etc in the campground overnight.
The best campground in NZ so far, with very nice facilities and location.
A really lovely site, straight from my campervan for a morning or evening swim and a small 'non commercial feeling' site. Excellent customer service and brilliantly clean and efficient facilities. Lovely to be this distance from Nelson ( about 20 mins) not too near, nor too far. I spent three nights here and there were lovely walks, swims and nearby activities ( horse riding).Plus a nice cafe next door and stunning scenery. Highly recommended.
Small, really fine and clean facility. Very recommended.
Great place, good recycling station, No Dump Station.
Friendly, cleanest park ever. Lovely spot for kayak trips.
Best 1 day kayak paddling around Pepin island so far.
They were very kind people and the camping site is worth 20 points. You can take a very nice walk, quite steep but you walk 10 mins and it is overwhelming what you see.
Sooo friendly + clean you don't believe it! Then hop into the sea in the morning.
+++. Very nice owner and stuff. Very quiet and peaceful.
